Those Clearomizers have an interesting-looking mouthpiece Camper, I've moved this thread from Beginners into General because members may miss it otherwise, and it's surely of interest to us all Hope you don't mind. scylla

I've spent quite a while following Chrissie's link (thankyou, good pointer as ever) starting from agreeing with Ian, thinking that they should have been made from something that doesn't crack.
This initially struck me as a materials problem - from what I could make out, people seem to reckon it is due to essential oils in certain particular juice flavourings interacting with the plastic the clearomizer is made from. There seem to be a forum group in Denmark working their way through testing flavours who have found it is only certain flavours which cause this damage.
Following the links from the video still further I discovered there do seem to be some real and quite widespread concerns about the flavouring ingredients in the juices which cause this to happen, which may well be justified. Basically, if a flavouring can do this to plastic do you really want to be inhaling it? The more I read the more I've worked round to feeling actually this effect could act as an early warning system for flavours that might be best avoided!!
It has occurred to me that it is possible that the same issue might afflict the SmartCarts or even Tanks. It does look as if the effect happens quite quickly if it is going to, so on balance I think I'd watch out for any signs of leakage as a result of the plastic degrading when using these, and treat it as a warning if they did.

i suppose ive gotten into vaping at a magical time as so many different things have come out since i started out full time vaping in late october last year I think you did Camper, the market is moving so quickly right now, it's a job keeping up with everything . . . whilst fantastic for anyone that's a got a bit of an inkling how ecigs work, it must be ever so confusing for anyone about to embark on their vaping journey - I think I'd be lost on where to start first!

The 808 is a 901 fitting (in case you didn't know) and sometimes requires an adapter to work - it does on the 901 Mini e-cig. It was my first carto and I liked it (Cappuccino) but I recently bought some more from the same seller, reduced, and they've damn well dried out *spit*. That's very interesting about some flavours eating plastic, Tetsy I wonder if you can get hard silicone, that's a fairly "inert" material, isn't it? Can you get degrees of "inert"? Prolly not I don't suppose it comes transparent either, the silicone caps on cartos etc are semi-opaque. Hmmm. scylla

I believe there are many hundreds of different kinds of plastics, Scylla, and no doubt some are much more inert than others. The precise one used for a given product is defined by which characteristics are considered necessary for both utility and appearance. If the use is novel then that is what Research & Development departments are there for - to find out and test candidate materials.
For instance, the plastic used for cartridges hasn't been mentioned as degrading like the clearomizers seem to have done but whether it comes in clear or translucent I've no idea. Failing that, glass would certainly do the job - and if a juice started eating THAT we would definitely have something to worry about!!
I still think this could actually prove to be a useful reminder that back when I started looking at flavouring, oils and sugars were something you were advised to steer well clear of - I remember Kate producing great long lists on ECF of which Lorann and Bickfords flavour essences were oil & sugar-free and therefore considered probably OK for vaping. I'd always assumed this was to avoid unwanted deposits in atties but may also have had safety considerations which I wasn't aware of too.
One of the many posts I came across yesterday pointed out that juice is almost certainly a product best made with nature-identical artificial flavours rather than natural extracts in order to keep residues and deposits to an absolute minimum. Having grown up being taught that artificial flavour in food & drink were things to avoid, in this particular case I think I agree with that poster. (Sorry, cannot recollect who/where this was to give proper credit)

Have I imagined that I've seen a Pyrex "tank" at a price? That would seem ideal.

Thats good to know Camperman.I am waiting for mine from cloud 9.If i like them i will definately bulk buy them.I like the XL ones capacity.Only thing im unsure about is that they are 3ohmns.Ive heard people say that at 5v they lose flavour.I will try them at 3.7v first, but if throat hit isnt good, they will have to be vaped at 5v regardless.Do you know if an LR version is available in these??? Oh well, worth a go innit

I don't think they'll be LR's Ian . . . additionally I saw Lisa say elsewhere that her clearo's have a higher resistance than others, so you probably will want to vape them at 5v to get the full effect . . . for a LR, I'd guess 2ohms would be a better option . . . but it shouldn't be a problem as you've enough hardware options to cover all eventualities.

I can't see those being on the market for long if they leak and crack that easily. I watched the Vapourtrails tv and all 4 of them gave clearo's thumbs down. Its was in Hifi's one.

I watched a vid of Scott reviewing them.He said they give lovely flavour but milder throat hit.Ordered 510 ones, but i reckon they will vape like a standard 901 He also said, people are finding at higher voltage, that they are giving a burnt taste. ::)Another fine purchase from me then,as usual
