I had a Kindle and gave it away to my dad..
Somehow it never replicated the touch, feel and smell of holding a book..I can see the convenience if you are constantly out and out, but I usually read books at home, so I prefer to browse in the library and read books in print..If I can't find one I am looking for, I buy a pdf version and read it on my tablet but it's quite rare..

I think that there's too much being made (not here, on this thread, but in general) of the whole "e-reader versus actual book" debate. If you have one, there's still nothing to stop you from having the other. If I AM going to use an e-reader, then it's Kindle for me because OH also has one, we can share libraries, I also have a Kindle app. on my ipad and ipod touch, and I can read conveniently wherever I happen to be.
People still buy books for me, I still buy them for myself (albeit rarely these days) and as I said before, I also use audiobooks in certain circumstances.
One thing's for sure. As I read an absolute minimum of 2 books a week, I've saved a fortune since I got the Kindle. And if I really, really want to read something I can. That was what got on my nerves with the library: there was always a waiting list for the books I specially wanted to read.

My computer broke 2 years ago so I replaiced it with a phone!! It had nearly the same specs and did everything I needed for my buisness, Email, word prossesing, internet and music. The only thing it didn't do well was play games which is great because that was taking up too much of my time. The best thing though was the reader apps I have access to kindle and kobo. I liken it to mp3 vs cd. When I had cd's I would scratch them, lose them, break them eventually. When mp3 came along I suddenly started keeping the music I had bought, the same for e readers I have books I know I will read again and there not taking up space on my shelf. Also my hand doesn't ache holding my phone like a book. So get a smartphone (android) and kiss goodbye to cluttered pockets with phone, mp3 and book. You know it makes sense cos you've already replaiced skins, baccy and lighter with something smaller

I looked at what was in my own pocket after writing that, an LT with a cyclon on it... oh well, boom goes that theory!

This is why we all need e-readers... Time to get rid of our libraries to make way for all our vaping gear

Just dredging this up to say Santa bought me a Kobo Mini, with which I'm very happy. I've been reading till my eyes bled It is quite dinky, but compared to my sister's Kindle, the screen is nearly as ig but the device is about 40% smaller. It will even surf the net - a bit slow and not all sites work nicely, but OK for Google, Wikipaedia and a few chat boards (not this one sadly). I can also get Calibre to download some newspapers for offline reading If I had wanted something bigger I would have probably gone for a 7 inch tablet with its improved functionality and colour screen , rather than just a bigger eReader..

Real books for me every time! The smell of a new book the touch of the fine paper, you cant get that with e readers. I am an avid reader 2-3 books a week and all from my local library, free of all charges, reservation system is 1st class. I have not bought a book for years as I had no room to house any more. My daughter has a Kindle, I tried it and did not like it at all and would never have one myself. # #

I only read when I'm sat with my feet up listening to music so I just down load to my laptop and read off my TV screen. Dave
