Was in WH smith the other day and the Kobo Mini caught my eye. I've been resisiting getting one for a couple of years for many reasons (cost, lock-ins, functionality etc) but this is really cute and going for only £50.
It also appears relatively unencumbered and quite hackable.
I've requested one for my birthday and was just wondering what eReaders others have.

I didn't want one, I expressly asked him not to buy me one but he did He bought me kindle and I love it, I also love the site ( that I got from a link in here) that telsl me of all the free books on amazon everyday. I have the basic kindle, I just want to read, I don't want to surf the web or watch movies.

Looks like most folks are Kindle based. I have to admit my interest was first piqued by playing around with my sister's Kindle. Later on I discovered their walled garden approach and worse their requirement to pay extra to be ad free. I've read around a bit and the Kobo doesn't have these problems - I guess I'll find out how good/bad it is when I get one.

My OH bought me a Kindle for birthday last year, and then used it all the time, so I bought her one for Christmas.
My eldest son, using the first one exactly like a book, swatted a wasp with it and broke it. So I bought a kindle touch a couple of months back.
I think it is great. I think the lack of a back light is the best thing about it - it is much less strain to read that way.
Ads aren't a problem for me (I use it to read books), but it does irritate me that I can't lend a book I've read to a friend even if they have a kindle themselves.

I have a now very old Sony 600, I use Calibre as my book management database (recommended), and probably have over 10,000 books collected over the years, mainly downloads.
