I'm going to bring this to peoples attention as it doesn't seem to be talked about much on AAEC and might have missed some people. Roger introduced me to his plated pheonix the other day and I was blown away by the clean tasting vape. So I went and ordered a SS version (they have slight differences, as well as the material). My Mrs did put it away for Christmas, but last night with my genesis not working and popping another coil, the vivi novas bought on the group code being a PITA tbh, I had to ask for it. I started with it with high hopes, after all it comes with a ready built wick and coil, so it should be perfect right? Well, no. It wasn't very good at all and soon burnt the wick, it was at this point I started to lose the will to live and wondered if everything I touched vaping wise just turned rubbish. (bad vaping day) But I rewicked with a single strand of 2.5 silica wick that came with it and it now vaping perfectly. Compared to the genesis's, it's a piece of cake and tbh, so much less hassle I'm not sure when I'm going to pick up a genesis again. You can use SS wick with it as well if you wish. Everyone seems to be jumping towards genesis style things atm, but this is a very very good alternative. The downsides are that it doesn't hold alot of juice, I've seen about 10 drops talked about, but mine seems to hold more than that, not really something for going out with though. The draw is too airy as well, this is cured by using an adaptor, I used a 510 to ego one I already had. I got mine from here. www.vapingthings.com/-PHOENIX_SS_REBUILDABLE_ATOMISER_WITH_EXTRAS_FROM__1599/p1311952_7880563.aspxI'm in love with the simplicity of it and the great taste, plus it's sealed below, so no leaks (unless you fill with too much juice and it gets over the air tube).

I've one of these Womble, they're excellent for the price . . . like you, I'm much more comfortable with FG/Silica wick & wire.

Daz at safercigs does them too for £13 or so, also called the A7 rebuildable. I got two of these and now use them as my main devices. ones on a standard joye 650mah battery and the others on a 900mah twist. Great little atties and they are completely stripable. heres a few pics : we've had quite a discussion about them over the road at UKV : ukvapers.org/Thread-1st-rebuildable-atty-phoenix-v-bulldog

My wick now looks like apostles first photo and it's lost all flavour, this is in a few hours, I can't quite believe it, maybe these need a SS wick.

Bit strange that Womble, I have been using one for about 3/4wks and have wonderful flavour from it. One of your wraps isn't to tight is it?

Is it your tastebuds giving you the run around Womble?

No, defiantly not. The phoenix has lost the flavour once again.
I know I am sensitive to flavours and taste, but this is ridiculous. :-[

Wish I could think of something to help it's a rotten vaping time for you at the moment with everything.

I find that in some things the coils on FG/ silica wicks gunge up fairly quickly (I'm guessing when they are in fairly small enclosures). I've found that dry burning them till they glow on a regular basis brings them back to life.

I need to update this, as it's totally changed.
THIS TIME, I've waited a while and tested it for weeks.
At the start of December I was abroad and had time on my hands, so I decided to have another go making a SS mesh wick, this time a U shape for the Phoenix, it worked straight away and has literally blown me away with the taste from vape number 1.
Certainly MUCH better than anything else I've tried, I can now try all the juices I have and taste them properly.
I try to remember to burn clean the coil every couple of days and it is really amazing, so easy to change juices, works consistently all the time. Only when the coil gunges up does the flavour drop off.
I've recoiled it once and it was well worth doing, I should probably recoil it once a week (heavy use) and it would be perfect.
Apart from it being a little fiddly to wick/coil, I couldn't rate the Phoenix higher with a SS mesh wick. With a silica wick.....meh.
Because it takes so few drops, it is difficult to take out, but I manage it, as it's just so much better than anything else I've tried (alot).

Thanks Perps, I was seriously down in the dumps with vaping and didn't come on here for ages, so missed the GB I was entered into (sorry about that). By the time I came back my name was red on the sheet. I did pm Chrissie by mistake to apologise (instead of you) oops, but then never sent the same one to you. I can be lazy, ie I'll do it tomorrow. :-[ I literally scraped through carrying on vaping, by the skin of my teeth though, only by really not wanting to go back to fags did I manage. Luckily, when I was staying abroad, no one smoked, otherwise it might have gone the other way.
