I will delete this thread once it has attracted a helpful answer from our handyboyz, who may not bother with The Lounge any time soon. I have an Ikea plate rack similar to the attached except that its top edge is screwed to the wall rather than hanging off a rail. Because my plates are too heavy, the horizontal part is drooping and drooping because the "hinge" joining horizontal and vertical is not strong enough. I'm thinking I could link the front edge of the horizontal bit with the top edge of the vertical bit with wire at the left- and right-hand sides, thus providing support for the horizontal bit. I would be so grateful if someone could point me to the exact wire I need - I anticipate it having to be easily twistable cos I am arthriticky-fingered. scylla xxx

I'm just being nosey really Scy and having a squizz at what the problem is. Florists wire is quite sturdy but the lads will probably have a better option, I'd imagine you'll need a pair of plier things to get it really tightened up . . . . or Plan B . . . not put so many plates on it.

I had a disastrous kitchen semi-renovation which left me with (apart from ££££ debt) 75% less storage space than I had before, so I like to put all my plates on the rack. I have reduced the number of plates but the damage is done, the rack is all droopy so the plates slide forward I wonder if you can get reusable paper plates? Otherwise it might work out a bit expensive... ??? Good idea though! Thank you, Sean, for the suggestions - which I shall investigate enthusiastically. scylla
