I've been using an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner but obviously I have to keep the lid on to lie it down. Would it have a better effect if I stood it upright with the lid off?

I haven't tested it myself Comfrey but it would be logical to assume so. Best result should be with it vented to atmosphere at a constant temp, I'm guessing 30c ish and a freq in the region of 30khz. Need to check up on temps but the freq should be spot on. Failing that go with what you have and just pop the top off for 5-10 mins every now and then, give the bottle a few squeezes to exchange the air. How long are you putting it in for? Would you be able to prop it up at an angle with the top off and the neck above the water line?

It's one of those jewellery bath thingys so I'm not able to stand them up so the water goes to the neck. It's nothing fancy, I just shove warm water in it and zap them for a couple of goes (about five minutes) It's not having a very good effect . I may just have to do it the long wait way

You need to do a lot more that 5 minutes. The thread I was reading over on ECF said 16-24 cycles of 8 minutes. This reduced the steeping time from 3 weeks to 3 days.
I made some juice yesterday and put it in the ultrasonic for 6x8 minutes, the juice was clear when I started now it has changed colour, left it uncapped last night and am going to do some more in the cleaner today,

Ok, so I made some juice last night and placed it on the radiator over night. The heating has only been on for about 3 hours in total since I put it on and I'm already noticing a huge difference in colour! From clear to a gold colour! (the flavour is a very light yellow / gold anyway so I doubt it will get any darker)
this is cost effective at this time of year and anyone can try it. I'm shocked how fast it's developed! Forget the washing machine, that was a dumb idea, heat seems to be the key to a faster steeping time

Love the ultrasonic cleaner method but untill I can find enough excuses to clean and justify buying one I'm gonna stick to putting it in my pocket for a day. The warmth and motion seems to speed things up.

It's one of those jewellery bath thingys so I'm not able to stand them up so the water goes to the neck. I have one of those too and just don't close the lid of the cleaner so the bottles are able to stand.
