I like Dave Dorn. He's a good guy and all the VT videos etc. are very informative.
i.m.o. I think he's got this a little bit wrong. Surely it all depends on how much nicotine you are used to?
Are you a 20 low-tar (low-nicotine) brand smoker or a 40 full strength smoker?
That could be the difference between 12mg/day and 50mg/day.
My missus puffs her way through 15mg/day over 25 (?) smokes. I went through 15mg/day with just 10-15.
It's all very well diluting 4.5% e-liquid with glycerin, but I don't think the taste would be good.

Bear in mind that the way you absorb nicotine from smoking and vaping is different, ie that you absorb nicotine at a faster rate from smoking than you do from vaping. An inhale on a good cigar or a pipe bowl full of Dutch Shag will clout you harder than any 45mg juice and for those of us who were used to that sort of hit then only a strong juice will do. Remember that noobs to vaping aren't noobs to nicotine and that your own experiences will not necessarily match the experiences of others, it all depends on what type of smoker you were. Spot on. Post of the thread.

Perhaps I should have expanded my question to a fuller version and written;- How do others feel about the advice given in this video, keeping on mind that it is primarily aimed at the newbie coming off cigarettes.

I see no harm in the higher strength liquids being available to experienced vapors. But until someone knows what strength suits them I feel it is irresponsible to fail to advise them to start off at a normal strength and then work up or down. when first starting vaping a few people find that they need to drop down to as low as 6mg or less due to the heart palpitations, headache, light-headedness, I started off on a moped and worked up to a fireblade I started off on a half of shandy and worked up to anything that got me legless I started on 36mg and worked down to 18-26mg due to heart palpitations.

I started on 24mg and soon after had to reduce to 18mg because it was to strong. I'm now down to 12mg and when i make my next batch will be reducing it again to 8mg. Wouldn't of been able to handle 45mg strength.
I don't think that i have ever seen e liquids sold with that strength and that would of rang the alarm bells for me.

Personally I am glad I didn't see this video until I was sufficiently into vaping to know my limitations.
I now know that 8, 12 and 18mg juice just doesn't do it for me and 24mg is good for puffing away all day.
If I have done some 24mg mixes and I am testing 4 or 5 juices in an evening, I can end up pretty light headed and certainly wouldn't want to drive a car or the like after any testing session.
So if I do try a higher mix, in the first instance, it will be a one off just to see the effects.
Overall, I think that this is an excellent beginners video, if only he had reduced the mg levels quite a bit and more in line with the general consensus.

I used to smoke 25-30 a day for 45 years.Didn't have a clue what to start on so went for 12. Have to say I found it really easy to give up much to my amazement, however I was basically chugging all day so may have been better to start a little higher. Must confess my ecig was more like a dummy, never out of my mouth, for me though it worked and I'm now on 8,10 or still 12 if I can't get lower.have tried 18 but get too many headaches.

I too started with some pretty low stuff. Two reasons really, firstly I didn't know any different and secondly, that is what came with my Skycig Kit. I think there was a couple of 8mg and 3 12mg. Not to worry though, they did give me enough nicotine to make me want to go on and find out more about vaping.
It wasn't without some trepidation that I bought some 18mg and I thought I was really pushing it a bit, but when that worked out okay, well then I was up to 24mg and have stayed there. I have enough 24mg juice mixed to do me until March next year so even if I do try a 36mg mix and like it, it will be after March before I do anything more along those lines.
Thinking about the way I vape, I can think of a couple of occasions over the past couple of months where I felt the need to up the voltage to give me a bigger hit and perhaps during these occasions a 36mg would give me that boost. So perhaps a bottle of that sitting on the back shelf might be a good idea, but not for general vaping. Well not for me anyway.

I currently vape mainly at around 12 mg I used to smoke 20 a day. Since watching DD's show I have upped the nic strength of my mixes to about 20mg and I am vaping less, more like when I smoked. A few puffs then I put my E-cig down as oppesed to almost chain vaping at 12mg so for me the higher nic strength is better.
As to the question about absorbtion of nicotine when vaping against smoking some time ago I read it's due to the droplet size of smoke against vaping. Smoke has very small droplets and these go further into the lung meaning you get more nicotine absorbtion. I believe the absorbtion rate of Vaping is about 10% of the nic level of the juice, however I may be wrong, maybe someone can remember the article and point us to that?

There has been research done by the medical profession on the absorbtion of nicotine into the bloodstream and why so much smoke vapour goes into the lungs. Apparently 2 substances used in the tobacco mix of cigarettes are Liquorice and Chocolate, both of which, when burned, give off a chemical that relaxes the throat muscles, causing them to expand and therefore allowing more vapour deeper into the lungs. I got this information from the my diabetic nurse during a routine check up. I might add that she was pleased that I had now swopped my fags for my e-cig. As to the percentages of nicotine that is actually absorbed when vaping, common sense tells me that it has to be enough to satisfy my craving and I doubt if anything as low as 10% of my 24mg would do that for me. I do believe that not all nicotine is absorbed and that some is still there on the exhale, but if it was as low as 10%, the e-cig would never be out of my mouth.
