Can anyone tell me whether I need protected batteries for the VAMO mod, or is it built in to the mod, found some really cheap (but good make) batts but they are not protected. ??? Anyone know anything about LG batteries? Is their capacity up to claims?

Careful with the 3400s Karma, they are an extremely tight fit, I would say go with the 2000mah efests

Yes mate, they are quite a thick battery and the danger is that you'll score or wear down the protective coating when inserting them, exposing the metal casing and cause the battery to short- not advised unless you know what you are doing

The pannys are a little thinner so you may well be fine, interested in your findings when you receive yours

The other thing you need to watch with protected batteries is what current drain they will take as VV/VW devices can be quite demanding - this is the advantage of IMR or the similar Panasonic hybrid batteries. Some are fine though - I've got some Keepower batteries that I got from Torchy which are Sanyo 2600 mAh with added protection circuit, they will take a 5 amp drain and work fine in the Vamo.

Those senybor batts says they have pcb protection so I think they wont fit in the vamo, I havnt got a vamo yet so not sure if the spring could fit it, however since the device already has protection, a protected battery isnt needed. they arnt as long as the efest 3400 mah batteries mentioned earlier in the thread though.
