Been mixing now for about two weeks and my mixies always seens like its missing something.. :-[ I put about 20%-30% flavor in my mixes and make 5ml at a time.. I have vape wizard so how much do i put in for a 5ml mix? I seen somewhere that lemon juice and apple cider vinegar go into mixes but what mixes to they go best with?

I think 1 drop/ml of vape wizard is normal, but it doesn't need steeping, so add 1 drop to 5ml and see what it vapes like. So far 1 drop/3ml has been enough for me to decide I preferred it without.
I haven't heard of mixing lemon juice, and the one reference to vinegar I read was pretty discouraging. I'd be dubious about either.
What flavours are you using?

As Giles says . . . what flavours/blends are you mixing with Karl and how long do you leave your brews before you try them out?

mostly sweet and fruit flavours from cup cake world and liberty flights. I Did make DY4 mix yesterday on its own at 15% flavor smelt a bit strong.. ...So once i make a mix leave it 2-5 days steeping max then test then add vape wizard if needed..Tryed to make a choclate biscuirt added all my flavors to mix and left it steep or would it be better to add one flavor like the base(grahams crackers) let it steep then and another flavor let in steep.sorry for silly questains still learning

No worries about the questions Karl, keep them coming . . . this is only how I go about mixing, but I leave my brews for at least a week before I test them, sweet flavours I find anyway do take a time to develop, fruits not quite as long.
I'd get your base crumble/biscuit/cracker flavour how you like it first, then layer the other flavours in, rather than adding them all at once.

Acetic Acid, (Distilled White Vinegar) has been used by many “main stream” E-Liquid manufactures for a number of years (and the tobacco industry before them), as has Malic Acid.
It is used mainly to smooth out Tobacco flavors, especially when blending but mostly on Tobacco Absolutes or Extracts. It is an accepted method and use.
Lemon Juice is used more with fruit flavours, as it makes the fruit flavour pop.
Malic Acid is a common E-Liquid component, and is used to “sour” or make a juice more “tart”.
All the above will also help fix a flavour, making it more stable and resistant to change or further development, they do this by increasing the acid content of the mixed juice, (changing the ph level). However, looking at the evidence from trials, if you increase the acid content (lower the ph) then you are effectively also lowering your nic %age strength.
It appears that a ph of 8.3-8.6 is optimal, but of course the increased base (alkali) increased TH, but also increases nic absorption. A difference of 1 ph can dramatically decrease nic absorption, hence to remain at your target strength, when you add acid, you will need to increase the nic %, but that raises the TH again.
There has been a lot of Vape based trials and testing carried out already by VERY experienced vapers, a search of some other forums will provide some very long and informative threads on the subject.
However, for the inexperienced DIYer, I stress caution and advise research undertaken before considering it, to fully understand the How, Why, Where, and How Much, to use.

Ah thats quite interesting about the ph and absorbtion, was having a look around and found some interesting info here www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1759570/I wonder if adding different types of alcohol spirits also changes the absorption too and ph

Thanks for that Perpetua.. Would it be ok to do mixes with just vg and pg with no nic to get the flavor i wont..also i bought my vg from ebay which is thick like syrup how would i go by thinning it out(Vodka or Distilled Water) and how much would i need to get it to the right consistency because i think i wasted my nic juice in mixes by not thinning the vg out...Also would this slow down steeping time if not thinned out
Hi Frogster Thanks for the information and i think im running before i can work..Need to learn the basics before even start with messing around Acetic Acid and Malic Acid but i will try the lemon juice in some of my fruit mixs

Personally I make up very small samples 5-10ml of e-liquid for testing (including nic), then scale up once I feel things are right, but it's personal choice. VG bought from non-ecig vendors hasn't been thinned therefore is difficult to work with (partcularly with syringes). Thin with about 10-15% distilled water (or vodka) makes it easier to work with. The PG in the nicotine and flavours also helps to thin the mix, for wicking purposes.

I'd double those times at least Karl, patience is a virtue when it comes to mixing. You're far more likely to have a successful end result the longer you leave your brews.

The nicotin i have is VG based so would need to thin out my VG...So when it comes to steeping i leave it with the top off in the boiler room nice and warm and dark..Do i just leave the top off to steep or put back on after a couple of days steeping? ???

Either or Karl . . . some peeps leave the tops off, me being a bit cack handed at times, I leave the tops on. I'd rather wait a bit longer, than have a spillage.
