Not at all..People can do what they like same as I won't stop letting people know what I think is completely silly and appears facetious in many circumstances. It's just not something you would do as often, when interacting with others.. You would laugh, smile, express displeasure or disapproval, agree, appear angry, appear sad, stick your tongue out, but very very rarely would you wink. So I have no idea why statements like: "I have been using it for 6 months" or " You should install this software and try." or " I took the dogs out to a walk" should either be offensive or warrant a wink.. Just visualize someone winking when they said that you.. Fair enough, but i don't agree with you. Communicating online is totally different to real life. I don't want to speak for everybody but personally, I only posted winks in an attempt to have a laugh about it. If it upsets you that much I apologise and will not do it anymore.

Nah there is no need to apologise It mainly irks me when people use it when advising others or make some innane observations. If it really bothered me it would have been consigned in bin along with "Like" button... Having a rant should see me good for the next 6 months or so until the next pet peeve comes along..

In all fairness Macca I used to go nuts with people doing...................................................this but you get to the point where you think what's the point in winding yourself up about it. Yes violet...............another member seemed to take offence at my usage of the 'dot'......but it's my thing & I like it....... maybe for 2013, said person will get a sense of humour. That wasn't aimed at you in particular Chris that's just me I've never found the need to be nasty to anyone about it. I have been online for quite a few years playing online games with many people you learn to see the other side of things and not go mental over something so trivial. As Dolly said if all I had to worry about were smileys on a forum or dots I would be a happy bunny but sadly my life isn't so easy.

I think we all have our little quirks & individual habits, be they good or not so good, but if we didn't, the world would be a very boring place. It's good to be different & a lot of people would say that I'm 'very different'. * I tried so hard to write this post without lots of dots & it was really difficult.

Just a couple of thoughts Macca -
Firstly, I often type in my smilies rather than click on them & it really is so easy to to not hit shift quick enough so you end up with ; ) for a wink instead of : ) for a smile. I know I've often made that typo.
Secondly, even if you do click on them, anyone with a small screen could quite easily mistake the winking smilie for a smile.

I am guilty of doing it manually and ending up with a wink instead of a smile, then being too lazy to correct it.
When reading, most of the time I don't think my brain even recognises the smileys, it just reads the words so they don't bother me anyway.
