At first as a newbie, I was quite disappointed at the lack of choice of icons, but I suppose this can be a good thing being that a simple can cause such irritation by some, but myself and others find the use of icons as a way of expressing humor in a number of ways related to a post, which of course was there intended use in the first place. Yeah, i only came to live in Essex 2yrs ago. I had never even visited here before. Apart from a few kids, i never hear anyone talk like that. Also, it has a reputation as being a bit of a dump. Most of Essex is truly beautiful countryside. I was amazed at how many lovely villages there are.

The over use of a smiley, or any other typing habbits people may have, are no where near as pathetic as this thread tbh, I'm surprised with you for starting it at all Macca. Seems from reading that you have a real issue with it, I cant help but wonder why, in what way does it affect you, or those around you? It can't possibly. People use it because they want to, and they can, they don't have to explain their reasons to anybody (P.s that was a cocky wink, of the type you might expect from the character in my avatar, not an attempt at being funny)

Just as pathetic as you assuming that it can't affect me perhaps? I never asked anyone to explain the reasons and did not ask anyone to to stop. I said it look facetious and stupid to me and that hasn't changed.

Just as pathetic as you assuming that it can't affect me perhaps? I asked how it could affect you, how does it affect you exactly? Really "Do you go around winking every time you offer advise or make an observation?" That's fair enough, each entitled to their own opinion, but what reason did you have to share this opinion other than to belittle those that use the smiley? And make them feel bad? To me, posting something like this thread looks condescending, self righteous, and pompous, and that is my opinion.

The statement ended with "it can't possibly". That's not a question, it's a pathetic assumption ..You ask the question and answered it yourself..
Taken out of context..Anyway, it is also the answer to previous if indeed it was one..It was my reason why I thought it looked stupid in many instances and facetious when offering advise..
No problem..I wasn't looking for anyone's approval to state my opinion and I don't give a toss what it looks like., And does not change my opinion of how facetious it looks when offering advise or silly it looks when added to general statements..

I think I can clear both these points up quite simply, the use of the ? indicates a question has been asked.

This little cameo hasn't changed my opinion or yours.. It's flogging a dead horse and we are what we are..
So you have your opinions and I mine and neither have to justify anything to anyone...I felt a need to get on my soapbox about it and I did..That's the be all end all of it..One man's food is another man's poison and variety is the spice of life and all that rot.

Fair enough, since you want to bring this to a mature conclusion, may I end with this? I didn't argue the fact it could be seen as facetious, because many of the times I use it personally, that is my intention, for it to appear facetious, as in, not to be taken too seriously, or literally. Other reasons I use it to indicate in-jokes, arrogance (yes I can be honest about it) and also sometimes use it, probably out of context, as nothing more than a fun smiley.
If you want to draw a line then fair enough, but I would have been interested to know whether it was just how it looks to you that caused you offence, or whether there was more to it than that, I was asking a genuine question, despite already believing that it cant be anything serious (an assumption I admit.)
