I have been vaping for over a year and have developed an allergy to PG and VG. I have tried a PEG eliquid once, but later found out the flavoring contained PG. My allergic reaction is severe itching, and red painful welts. For a couple of months I would take a couple of benadryl a day just to control the itching, but my reaction became too much for me. I finally gave in and stopped vaping and succumbed to smoking analogs over the last two weeks. I had quit smoking over a year ago and am of course very disappointed I can no longer vape and have gone back to smoking.
I have tried multiple vendors for the eliquid, organic, 100 % VG, 100% PG, mix of both, still no joy. The only hope I have left is DIY. The problem is what base / carrier alternative is there to VG, PG or PEG? I have been searching the internet and have not found an answer. I know grain alcohol is often used to dilute eliquid or in the flavoring, but can grain alcohol such as everclear be used as the base liquid? Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?
I appreciate any input. Thanks!

Can't help you I'm afraid Geekgirl . . . I've similar issues to you, although not as extreme. I became PG sensitive after 18months of vaping, all VG makes me very chesty . . . and I don't like the taste of PEG. Antihistamines made no difference, I can just about keep things in check with a VG heavy mix and suffer a morning cough, though I've been vaping ready made PG heavy mixes for a couple of days and I've broken out in red itchy patches on my face and in my hair. A warm welcome to you though.

Just came across this. I suffer with PG and VG. I havent vaped for a week now and get by on inhalers. Even VG mixed 100% with water causes a problem. Im going to try without nicotine, incase nic is a problem. Trying to locate a retailer of " Thick And Easy" a powder to thicken liquids. I can find it online but the delivery charge is a joke. Will check out "Everclear ".

Forgot lol. I stated nic could be the problem? Well i used to smoke 10 rollies a day,say 10 mg of nic. I vaped 18mg/ml and some days i could vape 3ml. This means 54mg of nic as opposed to the 10mg i used to absorb. I think peeps should be aware that its very easy to dramatically increase your nic intake without realising it?

I don't think you can do a direct comparison Talisman, nicotine from vaping is absorbed differently to nicotine from burning tobacco!

Lets face it ,thats the problem. no-one seems to know? Nicorette patches for the average smoker [20 a day] contain 21mg of nicotine. I think you will find a cigarette produces about 10mg of nic ,but only 1mg is absorbed. I can only assume if a juice has 18mg/ml and i vape 1ml, then i absorb 18mg?

I don't think you do ??? I think it's something to do with the particles being a different size in vapour ??? I am pretty convinced that I'm not as addicted to nicotine as I was when I smoked

talisman you absorb less through vaping than smoking, not sure why you think you don't for smoking but absorb it all from vaping?

From what i have read you absorb between 50-80% of the nic when vaping. In my situation, even at 50% thats still 27mg as opposed to 10mg. The medical research is there for smoking, its not for vaping.
