I have no idea about the eagles but I'd have thought their plumage would be more developed, ie the white head feathers ??? The chat hasn't been "up" for a long time so we don't get any expert info. The osspring are indeed far apart in size, but Storm (the younger) has survived early deprivation (if it was that, but s/he didn't need as much food as elder sibling) and is now surprisingly strong and spunky. This morning s/he, totally unprovoked, butted Star in the chest and received a helluva beating for it, ending up flat on his/her face and not getting up - it's not the first time. Someone on the blog comments nicknamed the chicks Star, the first-born, and Storm cos s/he was born in a storm. They will get proper, rather strange names probably, from the experts later. Here's a shot I took of the fight, but it's blurry cos they were going at it feather and tongs EJ is watching over them quite unconcerned. There's a video of it here but it's missing the initial chest-butt by Storm - at the start of the video Star is contemplating revenge - and gets it!!! www.rspb.org.uk/community/placestovisit/lochgartenospreys/f/915/t/46378.aspx?PageIndex=3scylla

Hi MM - Am still busy working, so only popping in now and then! Last night I had a panic re: eaglets, as like you, I had seen them 'perching' right on the edge of the nest - and wobbling as they did so. Then when I checked back, no sign of any of them! For a couple of miniutes I assumed that they had all fallen out. Thankfully, it was a poor camera angle, with the birdlets 'off-stage'! Scylla - your link there, is it meant to move? i.e. be a video, rather than a still picture? if so, mine won't move.

You should be able to scroll down the page and see a video - if you have a blocker it will have an arrow in the middle to click to unblock. It's not a YouTube so I can't put a direct link to it. Yup - posted by BruceIrvyng, he's got "sibling spat" ahead of the video. You need to scroll down quite a way, sorry I didn't say that scylla x

Which of us (not me, I know) coined the term "osspring" please? I've told them about it on the forum and several have said they love it and I want to credit the inventor Scylla, I'm pretty sure it was coined on that forum in the early days. I can't remember the details but it was something like two or three posters calling them oslets, osprets and someone came up with osspring.

Here's one of our eaglets. When the wind catches the back of his/her head you can see the white feathers underneath - but I didn't get a shot of that scylla

90% of the time Storm (littlun) does start it, MM But I'm getting worried that the cumulative effect of bashing on the back of the head (which often appears to knock him out) will cause brain damage I expect they're tougher than I think - but I've seen it said that they do kill each other sometimes, and the parents just stand by scylla
