Hahahaha, great minds think alike lol, funnily enough this came into my mind last night when I was starting to prepare my oldest Vamo for a strip down to brass, two 18650s would actually work, might try it later

You could stack 12 sections if you used NiMH A (or Fat A) cells, but probably best to only use 10 sections ( 5 batteries) for safety from over voltage.
