Hi All
Being new to this, and to get me off the dreaded cigs, I played safe and went for the menthol e-liquid as this is what I 'smoked' before vaping and was worried I wouldn't stick to it if I didn't like the flavour. I also went for 24mg strength as I was worried I'd be tempted into buying a pack if the throat hit wasn't enough.
This has worked well so far, as I'm not missing the cigs at all, but having read a lot on here, am I right in thinking you can get a lower nic content without losing the 'hit'? And also, some of the names of the juices sound really strange to me being a novice. The thought of 'smoking' a lemon meringue pie just seems, well, wrong. Is that just mindset?
Are other flavours really as satisfying? I know to buy trial sizes until I find something I like, but don't want to have loads hanging around if I don't like them and waste the money.
Any advice welcome and thanks in advance.

The higher strengths of nicotine content do give the stronger throat hit, but you could go lower than 24 and still get a good hit, such as 18mg. Most people tend to start off with tobacco like flavours, but get more adventurous as time goes by. As with everything, taste is very subjective and it does seem strange and confusing at first with all the different flavours there are. It can be very expensive at first buying lots of flavours that sound nice, but taste disgusting, so it's best to buy small 5ml sample bottles until we find the ones we like. Some people just stick to one flavour all the time. It's possible that one day lemon meringue pie could be your favourite, you never know! Nice gesture Kev.

Hi Kev and thank you. Hopefully will find one I like. And Annie, thanks for the help and you're right of course. will probably end up hooked on lemon meringue. No other way than to try them. Just wondered what most other people moved onto when they first started. Is it normally the fruit or do you just jump right in? LoL. Such weird names on some of 'em and some don't even hint at what the flavour might be. Looked on so many sites I got lost. Is cherry in one particular make better than another or does all cherry taste the same.........ok, too many questions.

Hi Tay, I am a big fan of menthol/minty liquids a good one is Paradise Vapes Cherry Menthol, it tastes just like cherry Tunes and can be found HERE. Also HS Menthol Sensation from Vape Escape HERE is a very nice menthol. Flavours that give good throat hit are Cinnamon & Aniseed, and of course there are LOADS of mint/spearmint flavours. I hope you find one you like.

Hi Tay, I was the same as yourself in that it was Menthol that took me from cigarettes to vaping and it was that flavour I was stuck on for a while. Then after trying loads of 5ml samples I found other flavours I enjoy. These days I am usually vaping a tobacco flavour during the day, a chocolate lime or a coffee flavour in the evenings and a menthol before bed. Last night I tried a free sample bottle of Gingerbread mix. Oooooooh it was luvverly!!! I will be buying more of this! If you buy loads of samples of 18 to 24mg, eventually you will find flavours that you enjoy (and quite a few that you don't ). In the 6 months or so since I started, I have probably found 12 tastes that I like and about 20 that I don't. Oh and there is still about 500 that I have yet to try so I guess I will be buying samples for a few years to come.

Hello Tay, if you like I'd be happy to send you some of my cherry vapewell if you fancy giving it a try - its much more of a glace cherry than a cherry tunes one.

Wow! Thanks guys. Bit overwhelmed now, and didn't realise people vape 4 or 5 different flavours throughout the day! I ain't got that much kit yet! Not enough to have all those different ones going on at the same time anyway lol. Cherry Vapewell? sounds like that was meant to be tried. Tunes? well do like Tunes so may try that........ and for some reason totally baffling to me........'smoking' gingerbread actually sounds quite nice. Don't know why, but I still think of myself as smoking even though it's not........and my OH is convinced I've got him doing something illegal. He's enjoying himself though, so no worries. One more question if I may (for now) and that is, as this is vaping, is it meant to just disappear when you exhale? I ask because I've noticed that when we're both vaping, I've noticed something that looks just like 'smoke' hanging in the air in the room for minutes afterwards. I don't think it has an odour, at least I can't smell anything, but then I didn't always when I was smoking the smellies as I was so used to it. Is this normal? .........and more importantly........will it turn my paintwork brown? All answers gratefully received.

Hi Tay.. Im a newbie also and I have also recently been posting about my search for the ideal cherry flavour. I can honestly say that the cherry varieties do all taste VERY different. I received a sample from royal vapour and initially wasn't that impressed... But unless I REALLY dislike a flavour I persevere. It was worth it because I now really like it. I tried a maraschino cherry that tasted of chemical and have also had a black cherry sent by another member that I haven't had chance to try yet. I will try the black cherry and also order the cherry vapewell.. If neither of those do the trick then I will stick with the one from royal vapour. Hope u find your ideal flavour. Also re the "smoke".. Its totally normal and I assure u it doesn't smell of smoke. My G/F who does not smoke or vape is asking me to vape particular flavours now. Apparently they fragrance the room in a NICE way. Her favourite seems to be cocomel. Saves on air freshener I guess!! Im sure someone will clarify what the "smoke" is.. I call it steam but that's probably not correct lol.

Tay, the vapour (smoke) will not turn your paintwork brown as there is no tar in it.

Tay & Daveyboy, If you get an e-juice that tastes of chemicals, they put it to one side and leave it to settle for a week or so then try it again. Some e-juices are made to order, IE, as soon as an order comes in, they make it up there and then and post it out to you. All e-juice needs to settle for a wee while to allow all the flavours etc to blend together. Some of the E-juice that I make for myself (I call them my homebrews) need a couple of weeks before they are ready, but others just a few days. But even these, taste better after a week or two. Good E-juice is like good whisky, it matures with age. Fortunately for us, that works out in days rather than years.

Hi Tay, I myself am quite new to this vaping mullarky, I've found and also read that a higher pg ratio in the juice gives more of a throat hit but here's the funny thing, menthol gives me a great throat hit but its no where near as harsh as tobacco flavours of the same nic strength, what I actually found was that tobacco flavours gave me too much hit for my liking, I smoked 25 rollies a day and had smoked for 27 years so wasn't expecting that, I love the tobacco flavours though so what I did was order from vapology where you can select nic strength, pg/vg ration and add extra, double or even additional flavours. I now smoke fire cured with 60%vg and 40% pg this gives me loads of vapour and taste and just the right throat hit. (Vg produces more vapour) and for a change I love their hot toddy at a 50/50 mix. Thing is though you really must let the juice steep for about 4 days minimum (less for the tobacco) or it doesn't taste of anything, I was very sceptical about steeping but it makes a massive difference with made to order juices. Phew hope that wasn't info overload, oh and if I need more throat hit I increas the watts on my vamo, if you haven't got a vari voltage or watt device you should get one. It's good to have the control! Hope that helps or at least makes sense!!

Thank you all. It's all brilliant advice yet again. Lastcig, thanks for that, but don't congratulate me just yet. It's only been since the middle of December sometime (can't remember exact date) and I had to buy the odd packet because I just couldn't manage on the lookalikes. It's been only two packs though and I did share those, honest. But I don't really think I could call myself a vaper until I got my Riva, which was.........erm, Saturday lol. But less than 2 packs in 5/6 weeks for me is phenomenol, so I can't really knock the toy ones, they got me to here and I honestly can't see me going back, I don't want to tempt fate though. Chrissie, thanks for that. Just decorated. It's good to know that all those people who say "it's the nicotine" when I moan about it are WRONG! lol. Me included for that matter. I can go forth and educate people now. And that person who came round when we had only painted half a wall and said "Oh what's that colour you're putting on, it's sort of mushroomy, but not quite?" and my other half said "Erm, we're putting the same colour back on, Harvest Cream ". well............it WASN'T the nicotine!! Think I may start a thread and ask what everyone definitely does NOT miss about the smellies. I'm starting to notice loads. Really. The decorating only being one of the things that drove me mad. Like not having to answer the door with a cigarette in my hand, or having to leave it burning if I was in the middle of having one. Not getting that panicky feeling that I've left one burning somewhere, I still get that feeling now sometimes and then realise I didn't light one! Not having to rush round with the air freshner and Fabreeze when someone's coming (don't think it ever worked but it made me feel better). Holidays will be a doddle now. Trying to find self catering that allows smokers is becoming impossible and hotels are a non starter. When I start actually thinking about it...........the list just goes on. Sorry, just realised this is turning into a novel. Just that we've been snowed in since Friday, literally, and I think I may start drawing a face on a ball soon. Thank God for the Riva is all I can say.
