Ok modders. Need some assistance. It fires perfectly well from the Vamo main button. Problem is when I hit the new button, it shorts out and switches off. I attached 2 wires to two points next to the white out wire. I assumed these could be used since Mr Dibbley appears to have done the same thing on the LT tube he rehoused ... any thoughts ? The button wires are to the left of the white cable They look like good contact points around the fire button, you should be able to solder on top of them.

Ash, in the first photos of the strip down, looking at the center pin on the pcb, did you put more solder on the pin before you took the picture.

do you mean the pin where the battery connects in the vamo? If so, no I didn't, that pin is soldered to the pcb. I haven't removed it and have just soldered onto the pin. Battery and fire button works perfectly ... it's just where to build a breakout circuit for firing.
Robby, the connectors in the photo you are referring to ... the 4 holes in a row on the left hand side or the connectors surrounding the button itself?

The ones surrounding the button, two of them must make a circuit for firing

It may be the type of switch you're trying to use. Try just getting it to fire by touching your soldered wires connected to the existing button legs. Since it's an electronic board it may be sensitive power wise, the tiny current it's normal switch uses might be too small for the switch you intend to use.
Don't know if this will be the case but it's worth a punt.

Robby if your going to take yours to bits, the top can be VERY hard to get off.

While it should in theory be fine to use any button the circuitry is using a microswitch which only use mA's of power to complete the circuit. The switch is not taking the full power load like it does with most home built mods. My thought is the chip might be cutting out as it is detecting a problem with the button as it may have been calibrated for the tolerances of the switch it has onboard.
What you really need is someone who knows the board well enough to check what the chip is doing with an alternative button.

photo coming ... Robby I seriously scratched the top part of mine when I removed it. Not a problem since it was toast anyway but it's not as easy as that YouTube video ...
