Went to work last night to be greeted with this notice on the wall......Drivers Notice.....Company policy on smoking has been updated. It is not acceptable to use any form of cigarette whilst on a bus or in Company premises. This includes electronic or similar substitutes of any kind.
Ahh well, back to the lollypops for me, or will they be classed as substitutes too...

It's a tricky one for your type of Employer I guess Marty, as much as we see ecigs as being acceptable in our everyday lives, to use when and where we like . . . the reality is different, as so much of public perception is, that they're still ' smoking ' devices. In your job, I'd assume you're visible to the GP and until they're educated, then it's always going to be a battle . . . .

You need to get one of those mods that look like an asthma inhaler. Might need a smaller atty though

I can see the point of the ban on the actual bus eg. the incident on the M6 during the Olympics, when the s.w.a.t team were called in, due to someone vaping :0 But in the depot, where it's only us drivers ? A bit over the top, methinks.

That's the Smoking Nazis for you - they perceive it as a loophole and will do anything to stamp on anyone's fun.

Are employers within their rights to prevent the employee doing something legal while on their coffee or lunch breaks while on their premises ???

Yes, i think they are. Company policy overules everything. It's not illegal but they can terminate your contract for breaching the rules.

Pretty much on their premises yes, that includes their vehicles. As long as they can justify it then they can do what they want as the workplace is their property.
