This is being discussed on tv right now.

It is now more life threatening than smoking!

Without the help of vaping, I think I could have gone down this road. I could not stop eating when I stopped smoking, anything, to try to stopped the pangs and stress of giving up smoking.

I discussed this with my then Dr, who just said,' you can get rid of the excess weight easily, you cannot get rid of the cancerous ingredients in cigarettes'. He also strongly denied that stress can cause overeating or cause depression because of giving up smoking.
He is not my Dr now , he was so anti smoking he would rarely give me treatment I know I could have had and have received from my new Dr.

You poor thing, sometimes l swear people with that sort of power just abuse it as they don't even try and see things from the patients point of view but when you get a gp that does listen and genuinely want to help isn't it great?

I have piled on a truck load of weight. Not because of stopping smoking but since becoming disabled.
Funny you posted this because over th last few weeks i have been searching for wheelchair fitness classes and i cannot find anything in my area.

Little or no help has been offered by the docs In fact they have not mentioned a thing!! I do have my first appointment with the pain management physio soon but i doubt it will do much to decrease my weight.
Trouble is, I have spent my life eating a certain way which was ok when i was active and mobile, but is obviously too much now i am sat down most of the time I hate being this way but can't see much of a solution right now. I dont want to just overly exercise the top half of my body as i will just end up with biceps like Arnold

dolly l could not agree more with your post and l can relate in part to it, when my downward health issue's started l was 8 stone but was put on steroids and have been on them for past 6/7 yrs and am now 11 stone by my scales but hosp had me at 12 stone so not real sure what l am and not real sure l want to know, am in the process of trying to come off steroids and touch wood so far so good but not getting over excited as l have been here before and never got to the final hurdle so we will just wait and see on that, now l have been told that if i stay on them in 10yrs l will be wheelchair bound which is because the steroids have started to attack my spine and 2 of the disc have gone so l can barely walk now, so l can sympathise with your situation

My bmi is 32 according to the wii fit, I'm just over 16.5 stone but thankfully, because of ecigs, I've not gained any more weight. I'm trying to loose weight before my wedding... ideally, I want to be 15 stone by the 18th of May and it's going to be hard.

Yes it's a pity you can't sue your Dr for with holding treatment because of his 'holier' than thou attitude, he was an an arrogant smug beastard.

It must be hard for you dolly, not because of the weight issue, but been unable to go and do what and when you want, frustrating situation to be in. But you have your sense of humour to keep you going and your family, just to balance out the ying/yang

How about aqua aerobics classes , a gentle one, the water takes the weight of your body , even just bobbing in the water may help

I went to see him because he asked me too and when i went to see him i said "You wanted to see me" he replied "Did i" i said "Yep you mentioned i should have another blood test" he replied "Nah your fine"...

And while i was there i mentioned that i am having lung pains and he replied without even checking anything "You should be fine in a couple of days"...I also said "My psoriasis has completly cleared up but i need some psoriasis creams as a back up, just in case it comes back" he replied "Do you have psoriasis...i replied "Well you have been giving me prescriptions for it for the last five years" of which he replied "Oh yeah"

The obesity debate annoys the hell out of me

As Dolly states, she has became physically disabled, so exercise is difficult!

There are also millions of people out there with thyroid problems that are not medicated properly, try losing weight while hypothyroid, not going to happen even just eating a lettuce leaf a day!

Then there are the side effect of drugs, especially some that are used to treat severe mental health problems!

It is not true that everyone who is overweight is gorging on Big Macs all day every day!

After fighting to get my thyroid correctly medicated I'm still very slightly over my BMI. I don't care, i'm happy within my self. But I had an appointment with the nurse a while back for something different. She had the cheek to lecture me about my weight when all her clothes were struggling to keep her rolls of fat from escaping
