Kibbster - that is a lovely, reassuring post, thank you. I have a few friends who smoke and I didn't want to feel like the ghost at the banquet clutching my PV and mournfully ogling their regulars. Think I'll still huddle with them in the cold out of solidarity, though! Do you personally feel at ease vaping in public places like cafes and such? And another vote for the Riva... crikey. Cult following. Where there's vape there's fire, I guess... it's going to have to be the Riva, isn't it.
I generally feel at ease vaping in public, I'm proud of being a vaper I do get some comments and a lot of odd looks when I sit in the works canteen and vape away in a smog of sweet smelling vapour, but people at work think it's cool, especially when I tell them it got me off cigs. In supermarkets and indoor places where there is a smoking ban I tend to be a bit more subtle, even though it is legal and my devices look nothing like a cig, I can't be bothered with having to justify it all the time and risk getting a anti smoking nazi who won't be reasoned with. In those cases I stealth vape, hold the vapour in for 30 seconds or so then it's all absorbed and nothing exhaled. I think the reason everyone recommends the Riva is that they are very good for the money and ideal for new starters, they can also be useful even when you are using more advanced stuff later on, most people keep their Rivas as backups. So they end up being very good value for money. There's no reason you can't carry on using Riva's forever tbh, you don't have to move on from them if you don't want to.

Crikey, you're all lovely. Many thanks for such a warm welcome! It's like a flashmob hug from the Venerable Society of Good Human Beings. I have no excuses now, not with all this support. Flash mob. LOL It always makes me laugh, when new people pop up and post a quick "hello" and then don't return for 3 days thinking we all have better things to do with our time than discuss e-cigs. But, we don't - we all know the importance of quitting tobacco ASAP. Some of us, not mentioning anyone in particular (DJS?) get a bit keen and over-do it sometimes. They I apologise.

Do you reckon I could maybe say to myself 'ok, Isla, you weak turnip, you can have your 5 cancer sticks for the times when you really enjoy them and aren't just smoking them on zombie mode, so long as you commit to vaping for the rest of the day.' Decent plan or silly idea?; Isla, in cigarettes there is something like 3000 different chemicals that go together to make them very addictive. In e-cigs there are just 4. The PG that blends everything together is also used in food additives and throat sprays. The VG is also found in food additives and in the safe smoke machines you find in theatres. The Food Flavourings that are common in all foods and is used to make the flavourings in e-cigs and finally the Nicotine itself. So far tobacco companies have missed a trick and we cannot go into a shop and buy 20 B&H in juicey Peach Flavour, or 20 Camel in Auntie Flo's Pear Drops, or 20 Mayfair in Gingerbread flavour. But you can with e-cigs. Over time I found myself reaching for the e-cig and a flavour that complimented the food that I had just eaten, so yon cigarette that I used to crave just after a meal become the e-cig with a particular flavour that I was really looking forward to. Don't think of e-cigs as a way of stopping smoking, but rather as an extension of smoking. E-cigs will take you to a higher level, but a considerably safer level as there is no Tar or Cancerous chemicals in them. You may cough a bit to start with, but that is only you coughing up the tar caused by you previous smoking. E-cigs do not put anything into your lungs other than water vapour.

Hello *wave* and welcome!
A lot of good advice already and you made up your mind. Good! The best thing you already realized is that it is a lot better for you to see vaping as taking up a new habit, not as a way to quit smoking. That might or might not happen, but vaping is like smoking 2.0 - better than smoking, more fun, better taste, but no death.
Soon enough you will look for ways to get that smell out of your clothing =)
Until then, don't worry about stopping smoking, just weave in your vaping and it will all be very natural.
Later, if you decided to give up the tobacco altogether, you will need backups and backups for them, and worry about the next big vaping shiney, but until then, just enjoy the ride. Its great!
I had been smoking 1-2, sometimes 3 packs of Gitanes (The stumpy french type) for 30+ years before I started vaping out of curiosity and after more than a year off the cigarettes I can report that this was the best decision I ever made. I gave up smoking on the first vaping day, but I didn't even want to. We even have 20 or 30 packs of cigarettes right here in this shelf, but we just don't like them any more. Yes, my wife started with me.
The only real downside to vaping is time and cost. I read more vaping related stuff than what I am supposed to read for my job. And vaping (for me) is more expensive than smoking ever was, but I will start saving money right after the next shiney device, I promise =)

Following up from Rosco's post above about dedicating one clearo to exclusively Menthol, it might be an idea to get one with a different coloured tube so you can always see which one's which! I have a selection of clearos, and I use the blue tips which come with the blue version to assign to my 1.8ohm attys, leaving the black ones on the 2.4ohm. This way, if I want a bit more bite to my vape I go for a blue tip, otherwise with desserts and fruits I opt for the black tip. I really can't wait to hear about your first vape!! You see, we all know what's going to happen already LOL, but you don't, although I think you have a pretty good idea by now! If ever there was a time when we wanted Jason to work miracles, this is it! I'm sure your order is winging it's way to you as we speak, and by this time tomorrow you could be wreathed in a cloud of fragrant vapour, deciding how best to dispoe of the fags that you'll never ever need ever again Keep us posted, please !! Andy

Don't worry overly. I had a few rushes/heart-racings in the early days. Very rare now. Also, I avoid inhaling 100% of the vapour. We know that there are temporary issues with inhaling vapour, but the way I see it, decreased lung function for a few seconds/minutes is no worse than smoking. I had the odd wheeze, but again, nothing like if I was to go and suck back two Marlboros. get off the tobacco first, then assess where you are. I needed quite a lot to jump the initial hurdle. Now I'm gradually working my way down again.

welcome and just a side note from me if you find you vape more than you smoke it shouldn't be a problem considering whats in ciggies and whats in e liquids but you may feel a little bloated or light headed so fluid intake is required and possibly a reduction of nicotine, as has been said a bottle of 200ml of glycerin from boots is only £1.29 and adding a little of that will help reduce the nicotine content. having said that you may feel the urge to have a smoke in which case a stronger nic content and a few vapes will ease the urge it is all a learning curve but we are all here to help all you need to do really is find a few of the 1000's of flavours that you will end up loving but even with that its a far more enjoyable thing to do trying new flavours. I seem to come and go with tobacco flavours now but love the sweet ones good luck and enjoy dont forget to ask anything you want on this forum as there are many members ready to pounce with an answer

Hi again Isla - your starting thread is turning into an epic, I can't wait till the next installment The Riva will be fine - all the batteries you have listed do pretty much the same thing, the differences are to do with quality and reliability, capacity (mAh - the higher that is, the longer it will last between charges)and cosmetics. Don't worry though, if you use a good vendor any problem you might have will be quickly sorted and if you take to it, you will soon be adding some extra batteries Personally I would get at least some 24mg juice. Your body will soon tell you if you are taking in too much nic. As you were a fairly heavy smoker you could even take in more nic with lower nic juices by vaping more. Try some different strengths and see how you go. I go for strong but occasional puffs, others chug away more with lower nic. After a while you will see what suits you. As for a menthol recommendation, a lot of people (including me!) like the Hangsen HS menthol sensation (you can get it a VE amongst many other vendors). That might be a good one to get in 18mg as it is a very strong flavour. We all wait with bated breath to see how you get on

Don't worry about having too much nicotine, when you start to rough just have a break from it and a glass of water, you'll soon feel better. I still occasionally over-do it and feel rough, I'm still alive and still vaping Especially when I drip... whoa... that shit is strong lol I get so into dripping it looks like I've got vapour coming out of my ears
