Welcome Isla As the others have said, a bigger battery is better than something cigarette-sized. However, if you don't think that anything that doesn't look and feel like a cigarette will cut it for you, then I definitely would NOT buy something from Tesco or Asda. Get something with a 510 fitting (compatible with all the good stuff) that you can refill with juice (massively cheaper than buying pre-filled). Maybe something like www.smokshop.com/collections/e-cig-starter-kits/products/copy-of-smok-510-dual-coil-tank. I'd get a few different juices to try.

Just to clarify - I wasn't recommending the TESCO/ASDA route because they are good. This was to show you how bad they are and minimise the damage cost. However, Giles is correct - if you are dead certain on that form factor then follow Giles' advice.

Also as others have said, voltages and resistances are the next stage again. I wouldn't worry about them for a while yet (if at all) , the Riva kit is as simple as fill, screw on, and vape :-) + 1 + 1,530,417. There is only one thing to remember; "The first rule of e-cig club is: You do not waste time trying to vape on look-a-like e-cigs." - - - - Not unless it's an emergency or you smoke about 5 super-ultra-lights a day. Then again, JacVapour and Innokin and Joyetech 510 are excused the blanket ban.

Stolen from another post I made -
I was on my own didn't really know any vapers so just ended up trail and error.
I went through skycig, 10motives and halo for probably 6 months before I ended up at the ego.
Worth it in the end though.
Finding a forum like this and taking some sound advice would have saved me a lot of time and money, its why I hope when new people come on here, saying they must have something like a cigarette, take on the advice that all of our guys can offer.

Hi Isla, my wife is also an Isla, but I won't hold that against you!!!! Like other have said, Vape Escape is the vendor to start with. I bought this kit from them;- www.vapeescape.co.uk/vape-escape-vision-1000-ultimate~397and 7 months later, it is still my everyday, out and about kit. I too was a heavy smoker, 40 a day, and so I use 24mg 90% of the time. I also have a few 30mg and a couple of 36mg e-juices, and use them when I am in stressful situations or where I know that I will only be able to have a quick toke now and then. Don't worry about the jargon, you will pick this up in time. The main thing to concentrate on is to get vaping and ejoy it.

Hiya Isla and welcome I agree that Vapescape is a great vendor, whenever I have had anything Ive always got it the next day. It does seem very confusing when you first make the switchover to e-cigs, once you get one I think you will be very pleased, from the moment I picked one up I have never looked back.

Hi Isla. Welcome to the forum. I started on cigalikes but found this site and moved onto a Riva 1100 quite quickly and never looked back. I am also in Spain and have placed many orders with Jason from VapeEscape, delivery is very fast. Also Kev from Freedom Vape is also a very good vendor in Spain. Shame there are not as many ecig shops here as there are in the Uk!

Crikey, you're all lovely. Many thanks for such a warm welcome! It's like a flashmob hug from the Venerable Society of Good Human Beings. I have no excuses now, not with all this support. My last hope was that you'd all be gits!
I had a feeling you'd all tell me to get over the lookalike hang-up. You're right, I know, the only reason that I'm still a bit caught on the idea is my previous success quitting (way back before the advent of vaping) with a little plastic cigarette. It didn't even have a cartridge, but in times of dire need I had something to twiddle with between the two familiar fingers. I think the psychological and stupid aesthetic addiction probably outweighs the physical cravings, although I do inhale very deeply and hold it in and exhale through my nose, so I may be far more of a nicotine junkie than I even realise. Think you've managed to talk me out of a lookalike, though. It's pointless if I can't use it in the long term. Maybe I need to adjust the thinking and stop expecting the whole quitting process to be hell, and instead focus on adopting an enjoyable vaping habit instead. So it makes sense to get something that gives a good vape.
...Another 10 or so panicky fags later and I've carefully snuffled out every link and recommendation (thank you!!) - now I'm a bit torn. Vape Escape sounds like the firm favourite and there's a lot of votes for the Riva. Some mentions for the Vision 1000 Ultimate, too. And Ros's Vapeland Ego-T CE5 looks really tempting with great reviews! I'm wondering if the Ego-T is a little too good to be true at that price...? I mean, there's even a wall charger included, and I'll need that as I only have a laptop and I don't think you can reliably charge via USB on one.
Hmm. Vapeland is looking good, I can't see it on the forum's list of vendors, though. I guess I'd be an eejit to ignore so many recommendations for the Riva and Jason at VE? Is there a big difference in quality/vaping experience between the two options? Or another possibility: should I just take the plunge and go for the Vision 1000 Ultimate... in for a penny, in for a pound? FreedomVape looks like it has some gorgeous juices, too...
Going to have to quit nancying around soon and just order one of those 3 options. Many thanks to everyone for narrowing the field for me!

The good thing about the kits that are mentioned above is that the fit a very wide range of top bits and so they will do you for a long time.
Although I have other units now, my first kit is still on the go and working well.
However, I loved smoking and had smoked for 50 years. It was only because of bad health that I changed to vaping, but still, it took me a month of cutting down on the fags and upping the vaping before I finally gave in and went 100% vaping.
Let your body decide when it is time to go vaping all the time. Don't force youself into it. With vaping you will get all the nicotine that you require and the rest will happen all by itself.

Hi and welcome Isla,
Great post by the way. Already great advice from everyone.
My advice(from my own personal experience) would be, when you do start vaping(Riva is a good choice by the way), especially for the first few days, make sure you keep yourself hydrated.
I used to smoke approx 17 nasties per day and started on 16 mg dropped to 11 mg then jumped to 24 mg, then averaging out at 16 mg. It might take a few weeks to find the strength that suits you.
As for flavours, only buy small quantities, What you might like early on, you could end up hating in a few weeks time( and vice versa) once your taste buds change. And believe me, they will change.
I hope this helps.

Loads of good advice already given. I iffed and arred and dithered for a while but just decided if I'm going to get a kit then just go and get one ! At least I'll know if it's no good then there's others to try... but I need to find out what it's like !! I went for the Riva kit, stopped smoking after 6 weeks and some 15 months on I vape all day and never think about having a fag again. So I agree with your comment that you must stop 'nancying around' and give it a go. See what it's like.... you may surprise yourself. Same sensation as smoking but with any flavour you care for. Just give it a go and see what happens. I used to smoke 25-30 a day for 30 years, but after having a go myself I now smoke 0.
Best wishes to you

Hi Isla and welcome to the forum Like many people here I started on a ciggie lookalike but ended up back on the cigs after getting frustrated with dud cartridges that lasted an hour or didn'twork at all and constantly recharging batteries. After buying an Ego kit I couldn't believe the difference in the taste, vapour and battery performance compared to the cig a like. 2 of my friends have now bought the Vapeland Ego kit Rosco linked to and a couple more have bought the Ego kit from www.v-health.co.uk/#/shop/4569113622/eGo-CE4-900mah-Starter-Kit/3610122 and all of them are really impressed with it so don't think it's too good to be true. I can only comment on the Ego as I've never tried the Riva kit but judging by the reviews it gets on here it's also a great kit so if you choose either of these you'll be off to a great start Try and order some small sample bottles of E liquid til you find the flavours you like and the right strength for you rather than ending up with 30ml of something you don't like. Any ones you don't like try them again in a few weeks as your tastes often change if you still hate them try mixing them with another juice or I find adding menthol juice will make most of them vape worthy Good luck with whatever you decide and let us know how you get on! Happy vaping
