Tug, Pull, Tow. As in caravan, folding camper, trailer tent. As in everything that J Clarkson and gang hate loathe and detest, while we enjoy our British Countryside and stop them doing 200mph down country lanes.

I used to have a caravan, and believe me I wasn't slowing many people down, but at higher speeds you got to have a stability bar. But I don't blame the tuggers for going slow and causing processions, I blame the other useless err drivers for not overtaking them when they have the chance, thus causing bigger tailbacks that then stop people from overtaking, Ie it's easy to overtake a car and caravan, but not so easy to overtake the same when it has another five cars behind it.

Personally I find that any time I am holding up traffic it is because I am being held up by a wide load or an agricultural vehicle which is fairly common on country roads. Ofcourse those behind me that are getting impatient, cannot see what is holding me up.
It just so happens that the campsites we enjoy the most tend to be in the back of beyond and hence us now looking for a vehicle that will tackle any road or trackway that we may come across and over the past few years we have come across some corkers!

Well, they used to be utter cack as everybody knows, but nowadays they're really improved and what you're getting is more or less a proper car, just stripped of the frills and fancies. As far as I know they're mechanically good, but I'd pay careful attention to websites like Honest John's for owners' opinions. I think I'd buy one - I wouldn't have touched the old Dacias with your bargepole, never mind mine.

I have just been reading the review of the Duster on the Honest John Website.
It says that although a 4x4, you can lock the drive in either 2WD or 4WD or leave it in Automatic so that it will drive in 2WD and automatically go into 4WD if it senses that the front wheel drive is slipping. Apparently this system was developed by Nissan.
There is also an excellent review, by a British guy living in Romania, of the Duster and he waxes lyrically about it, even down to its superior paintwork.
In the meantime there would appear to be a 3 month waiting list in the UK if you want to buy one.

It says that on the website linked to earlier, was having a gander last night and they do seem ok, the price goes up a bit if you want a diesel though.

I am a bit concerned that all the sites talk about the engine noise from the diesel but I will have a look at the sound proofing when I get the chance and I may be able to up that a bit. The engine itself is Renault and all our recent cars have been Renault Diesels, so we should be used to that by now.

Yesterday was 4 months to the day since I ordered my Dacia Duster 4X4 and I got a phone call today to say that I will have it tomorrow! Canny wait!!!! Sleepless night tonight and have ramped up the watts to 10, just to keep me calm! Now I will need to rack up 1,000 miles to run it in before I can tow the caravan.
