Hi all,
I just bought a Segelei Zmax which I'm very pleased with, I'm currently using a 1.8ohm head in a mini nova which I already had on the go, and that seems to be working fine.
My question is that given I'm running in VW mode, what is the best choice of head resistance, and does it really matter? I have it in my head that higher resistance heads are likely to last longer but drain the battery quicker, but I can't quite nail down the science to know if that is the case?
Thanks LJ

Actually higher resistance equals less battery drain as less current flows through. I know it's totally counter initiative isn't it! As for what watts, the idea of a variable wattage device is that whatever the resistance you should get the same result. That's the theory as far as I understand it. Set and forget. Chris.

With vw it doesn't really matter what ohms you use as it adjusts everything to make it all good. Higher ohms don't drain batteries as quickly as lower ohms. If you're enjoying your vape then just enjoy it and don't worry about the science

Thanks, I think I get the bit about current now, so is is true to say that is makes absolutely no difference to longevity which head you use at a given power? (assuming the same quality).

Higher power (watts) makes the coil burn hotter which in theory should shorten the life but in practice if you go too high your juice will taste burnt so you will not go too high.

Start at 5 watts and increase until you get what's right for you which will probably be between 7 and 9 watts.

Thanks all, I'm currently using 6.5 watts which seems to work perfectly and despite being only a little higher than my ego battery (I think) has improved the taste, unless I'm just dazzled by my shiny new toy. Another question I have (sorry to go on) is about batteries. From my research I gather the XTAR SP2 is a good charger to have, and I know everyone bangs on about AW batteries, but is there any recommendation for bigger capacity (presumably I need protected?) batteries? These EagleTac ones looked pretty good value: www.ledfiretorches.co.uk/aw-18650-2900-mah-rechargeable-lithium-battery-909.html, and there's a review here: www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?332963-Test-Review-of-EagleTac-18650-3100mAh-%28Black%29. Question is, will they fit the Zmax (it says they're small)? At the moment by batteries actual rattle a bit, so I'm assuming there's enough width... Anyone tried them?

You don't need or want protected batteries in a zmax as it has built in protection, if you were to use protected batteries it just wouldn't work out too well as the 2 would get confused by each other. IMR batteries are what you need, either AW, Efest, Senybor or Panasonic for example. As for sizing you need to maybe start a thread asking but have a search on here first as the info is probably already on here somewhere.

I use 1.8s on everything I can (i.e. everything but my RIVA). On a VV/VW device, it makes no difference as you'll tinker with it anyway.
I ordered a variety of replacement heads today.....Nova, CE5 and Innokin DC. Mostly 1.8s.

I tend to use 2.4 due to the fact it's all I bought in the start...
