This was brought to my attention by TheHappyVapour from VTTV and explains one detail about electronic cigarette use even to us hard bitten users.

Hmm..interesting point, unsure whether I agree or not. This seems to be a little more based on technical medical definitions, not sure how useful it is in real terms... I had a read here and found this: "In summary, drug addiction describes the motivational strength of substance use; drug abuse describes the misuse of a substance without explicit reference to motivational strength; and drug dependence describes the necessity of using a substance to maintain normal psychological and/or somatic functioning without reference to the motivational strength of the substance use or to whether the substance use violates cultural norms." What do you think about how this applies here?

Very interesting video and I think there's a lot of truth in that for me. Funny I started watching the video thinking "Yeah I'm addicted to nicotine and dependency and addiction are semantics." By the end I was thinking... Um yeah there is a difference and what he says makes sense to me.
Unfortunately he's right about the ANTZ still view it as addiction, like I did five minutes ago.

You don't find it a little convenient that addiction is using a substance that's harmful, and dependence is using a substance that isn't? He may well be right and that's how it's defined, my medical knowledge is pretty much zero! That's just the gist I got from it anyway.

I think that is exactly the point he's trying to get across, addicts are causing damage to themselves and those around them whereas dependant users are not wrecking themselves (except wallets/purses). Yes it is semantics and different people use different definitions to get their point across. If antz can get away with it so can others (i.e. us).

I don't know, it's something that is open to interpretation I guess. Truth is I don't care if they want to call it an addiction or dependency, the end result is the same for me. Unless one is good and one is bad and they can call me the good one lol I'm most definitely dependent on nic and to others they may call it addiction. By his definition I'm not addicted.

I completely get his point, but it's hard enough to convince non vapers/joe public that it's not the same as smoking. Let alone the difference between dependency and addiction.

He says we are not addicted to e-cigs I agree with that, what I don't agree with him is nicotine is not addictive. I chose to use e-cigs as my way of getting my fix for nicotine' without all the chemicals that's in a cigarette. For him to say nicotine is not addictive it is a dependent just does not make sense, if it was not addictive then why does our body crave for it when we try to stop smoking. We deny our brain an addictive substance, nicotine is as addictive as heroin, if it was not the NHS would not be supplying nicotine treatment anyone can stop an addiction if they get the professional help and treatment if they want to. The individual has to want to stop, it is an addiction the same as any other drug Painkiller's, Heroin. Marijuana, cocain, I could go on and on.

As others have said, it all comes down to definition.
I am an Alcoholic. I decided that 26 years ago. I attended AA meetings for 12 years. I have not had an alcoholic drink in the last 26 years.
However I was never pronounced alcoholic by any medical person or institution and there is nothing on my medical records about it.
So if some "official" comes along and says that it is safe for me to drink alcohol, will I believe him?
I think that you have to make up your own minds about Vaping and why you vape and while it is interesting to listen to other people's point of view, that is all it is. A point of view.
I wonder why yon guy in the video thought that wearing a Dog Collar would add more weight to his arguement. Does he think that because he was "a man of the cloth", that he would be more believable?

Addiction.... "Compulsive physiological and psychological need for a habit-forming substance"
So is fuel for my car, because without it, I cannot go to work as, like nicotine patches, there simply is no suitable alternative (i.e no public transport that would get me to where I need to be, when I need to be there)
So.... No fuel = No work No money coming in No home No taxes paid etc, etc
So in feeding my 'fuel' habit, not only am I SAVING the govenment money, in terms of not claiming benefits etc, I am paying far MORE for this addictive product, in the form of duty and VAT than I should be (i.e giving more of my money in just the same way as I would by smoking tobacco, another addictive substance.
What is boiling the governments piss is that WE (without government / pharma / big tobacco) have found a suitable alternative to supply our needs, without a massive governmental mark-up.
Benefits be damned.....Its all about the money. Always has been, always will be.
