I am beginning to notice more and more "Use By" dates appearing on E-juices and Flavourings.
If e-juice and flavourings are made up using PG, why would they need to have use by dates on them. Some are as low as 7 months from purchase.
Is there some sort of industry time line that we can refer to, to work out how long our e-juices will last after mixing, or is this time scale down to individual firms?
I am finding it odd that it is only now that we are starting to sell use by dates coming in.

I'll probably just ignore them as I do with most use by dates!

I'm thinking that myself Karma, but I was just wondering if something had gone through that I had missed.
Perhaps someone from the Vendors would come in here and explain what is going on.

This country is paranoid about use by/sell by dates to compensate for the lack of commonsense some elements of the general public seem to have . . . I'd think Vendors are dotting the ' i's ' and crossing the ' t's ' where eliquid is concerned ahead of whatever legislation/regulation there may or may not be.
Like Karma, I'll ignore them and use my nous as I do with food stuffs and everything else I buy with a sell/use by date.

Thanks Perpetua. So if I see any mould on the top of the liquid, I just scrape it off and vape the remains? Then again, knowing me, I scrape off the mould, wring it out and add what comes out back into the bottle.

I am finding it odd that it is only now that we are starting to sell use by dates coming in. AFAIK most 'stable' liquids manufactured for human consumption typically have a 'nominal' shelf life of 2 years assuming unopened and packaged in a clean air environment to prevent/reduce contamination by airbourne bacteria/ fungal spores, which I believe is the same as used for bottled water. This however is taken from date of manufacture, not date of purchase.
Re. Flavourings/ E-liquid: To quote Kurt (ECF) a chemist:"Flavors are probably the most unstable part of e-juice, and the presence of water in them will hasten their decomposition into nasty tasting products. Fridge cold does not really change this a lot, it is dependent on the flavor itself. Fruits are especially prone, since they are esters that tend to hydrolyze to organic acids (sour, vinegar, vomit taste) and organic alcohols (wet-dog, funky taste)."

I hope that is the voice of experience Roger and not just a suggestion.
Either way, I'll give it a go. It cannot be any worse than Lime Marmalade.

I have some e-liquid from safercigs.....it says "MFD 8/4/12 USE BY 8/8/12."
It's nicely steeped. I am *deciding* whether to vape it or not.

I suppose that e-liquid manufacturers and sellers could put shorter use by dates on a product to encourage us to buy more?

Thanks Postmodern, having two dogs here, I wonder if yon smell is Warm Wet Dog or Cold Wet Dog.
I am rather partial to the warm smell. Well living on the west coast of Scotland you get accostomed to the smell of warm wet dog. It grows on you.
