Ok so decided to mix my own. I bought some 18mg 50/50 ready mixed nic base from here in France. I made up some rhubarb and custard and wrote down what I did. A week later tried it, omg! It tasted and smelt just like the sweets. It didn't last long as a friend nicked the rest of the bottle! I only made 10 ml! So, I bought a DIY kit from lt e cigs and following my recipe made some more. A week later tried it, does not resemble rhubarb and custard in any way, shape or form! So what I wanted to know was does the nic base have an effect on the flavour? If not does any body know where I could have gone wrong. I really want some more and so does my friend. Getting withdrawal symptoms! I used 7 ml of the ready made nic base 2ml rhubarb (ccw) and 1 ml custard(ccw) followed that exactly but made up 18mg 50/50 using my kit Any help greatly appreciated.

I think it can Dibby . . . having had some nicotine bases that have quite an undertone of flavour to them. Haven't tried LT's so can't comment on what it's like.
Maybe you need to steep this longer as on your initial brew, the base was already pre-mixed.

I would say buy some more of the original base and replicate your first mix, if it works great , you will know the lt base was the prob , Good Luck

I had also bought some nic base from vapourtine and think that was what I used in the 2nd mix. I have some steeping that I made with lt's nic base so will see if its any different. Will have to try and remember where I bought the French one and order another bottle and also order some more flavoring as have used nearly all of it trying to get the mix right!

If the nic bases are slightly different they will have a slightly different but detectable acidity. The taste buds are very sensitive so dont exopect to get the exact same results but settle for close enough.

Would something like Vape Wizard help sort out the different nic base tastes?

Would something like Vape Wizard help sort out the different nic base tastes? Depends Lorraine, on how sensitive your taste buds are, what flavour you've mixed with it and the percentage of flavouring you've used in the first place. I can normally kill off any background flavour with the relatively high concentrations I use in my mixes. It wouldn't hurt, although VW is really a flavour rounder. In all honesty, I've only ever had one batch of nic base that had some flavour of it's own going on that I could taste anyway, so I've not bought again from that Vendor.

It would be interesting to see if vape wizard blocks out the acid test giving a mono tone reading throughout base liquid mgs that had it added. Ive got some on order, i would be interested to find out exactly what it is doing to the juice. I think the Ph levels in flavourless base juice can be just as much the culprit.

When I made the first batch up it smelt and tasted of rhubarb and custard. This time there is a slight hint of smell but no flavour, yet I used the same amount as the first batch, this was why I was wondering if it was the nic base.

I keep having flavours going dead on me, Ive been mixing at +30%. After a lot of running round the web Ive read that to much concentrate can overbear the taste buds and kill the taste. I dont know how true it is but Ive flavours coming monday this batch Im going to mix at 15 to 20% and let them steep, Ive always been too impatient with the others and put plenty in and vaped them straight away. I dont think the nic base accounts for no flavour, it sounds more like vapers tongue creeping up.

Ive always been too impatient with the others and put plenty in and vaped them straight away. I don't touch anything I've mixed for a week, then I'll have a taste ( drop on my tongue ) and adjust flavouring if needs be . . . then leave for another week and taste again. If I'm unsure I don't add any extra flavour, but leave for another week. By and large anything that I've mixed, doesn't get vaped for at least 3 weeks. And happily 99% of my brews, suit my tastes by that time.
