They're not censoring what we say, Clutter, merely using it to justify their actions. There is discussion of the phrase "averagely well-informed consumer" on MHRA and other websites - as always, buried deep within documents you may not think of looking in - but it basically boils down to "sun/mirror reader" - what we used to call " the man on the Clapham omnibus".

So, if you wander up to Joe Bloggs with your super-mini dangling from the corner of your gob, and he says "Oh - it's a plastic tab! You packing in smoking, then?" - he is averagely well-informed, and he thinks (or has the impression) that e-cigs are a smoking cessation device. And if that's the case, the MHRA has grounds for requiring an MA for e-cigs under the "medicinal by presentation" limb of qualification.

Might be a good idea for us to come up with a description of what we do that we could sort of use as a group.

'I switched from lighters to battery power and shed a few 1000 chemicals'
'Save breath, go electric'
'don't want to give up? Vape it instead!'

It's not so easy trying to think of something quirky without referring to the health benefits, so I can see the ecig vendors having a hard time somewhere along the line. In fact a few of the ehealthy ecig type vendors are still trying to sell it as a miracle 'give up' device, which is going to be very detrimental to the larger professional companies who are fighting to keep ecigs off the health route.

Sadly we live under a 'nanny rule' world, everyone wants to get their cut by screwing us mere mortals. I'm pretty sure the MHRA couldn't give a flying fig how ecigs are perceived by the end user, they don't care if people believe they've given up the weed or not. All they care about is making money, just the same as every government body out there.

If they can force manufacturers and vendors to fight the cause from a health point of view then it will be their government body that will regulate the industry. The manufacturers that want to stay in business will have to prove through years of clinical trials that the product is safe. They will then have to pay a fortune to license the product. Of course by going down this route it will most probably mean that analogues will be cheaper to buy than ecig related products as any manufacturer that has taken it the full circle will need to recoup the millions that it has cost them in getting licensed!

"Smoke without smoke", "smoking without smoke", and "smokeless smoking" fit the bill for me - but I do acknowledge that the "smoking" thing is a barrier for a lot people. And yes, the Nanny State, I feel, ends up causing many more problems than it solves. I do think that people can feel TOO safe (I'm one of those folks who would have a nine inch steel spike in the centre of every car's steering wheel aimed straight at the driver's heart - they'd drive very carefully then...)
