So, a year has passed since I last smoked a cigarette . I really can’t believe that it has been so easy and such a pleasant journey. Or how much the technology has developed in just one year. Or the friendships I’d make here on AAEC. Like many others, I had started on a supermarket cig-alike then quickly ‘upgraded’ to Skycigs. I was scouring the net for information and came across ECF. Chrissie found me there struggling to make sense of all the information I was gathering and brought me here. As with so many other newbies, I was pointed to the Riva kit at VapeEscape. Back then in the mists of time the kit was sold with atomisers and cartridges. Chrissie suggested I ask Jason nicely if he’d swap these out and replace them with the new-fangled all-in-one cartridge/atomiser gizmos called cartomisers. Cue another net search along with videos explaining the condom method and the Taryn Spin. There were no clearos or rebuildables in those days so the carto was very cutting-edge. Things soon started to take off with the arrival of the first clearos (or stardusts as they were also known). These had short wicks and were not rebuildable – use it for a period then bin it. Obviously these devices have undergone major development since then, but at the time they were the mutts nuts. Then towards the end of May Perps started a thread announcing that she had just bought a Selbstwickler from Germany! Now, you probably don’t know what that is, and nor did anyone else at the time. It was, in fact, the first time most of us had been made aware of re-buildable atomisers and we were in awe! That thread got over 3,200 views and attracted 166 replies. That and the arrival of the Penelope a short while later were the start of what has now become so common-place we don’t give it a second thought with our AGAs, Spheroids and Oddy clones and whatever else. It was a similar story for mods. There were ego batteries in black or silver. Full stop. Or, if you were a real hardened vaper, there was the Lavatube V1 to aspire to with it’s mysterious variable voltage. If you’d been vaping for, say a year, you might reward yourself by splashing some of your savings on a Provari. Only one UK vendor sold them, and so few people had them that when someone ordered one there were long threads started demanding pics, performance reports and so on. Then there were the real hard-core lot who went for this unobtainable, unaffordable Greek stuff. Want juice? Go buy it from a vendor. Mixing was, again, something only boffins did. Then in late September Frogster started his “Mixing Tips, Tricks, Questions & Answers” thread. That thread has now been viewed 37,000 times and started such an inspiration and revolution that most of us now dabble in mixing our own, or at least don’t think it at all strange that others do. I wonder what a newbie starting today, 27th March 2013, will be writing in a year from now. If you are that newbie, or a recent convert to vaping, imagine a world with no Twists, no Spinners, no Zmax or Vamo, no Evic (in fact no VW at all), no clearos, no Vivi Novas, no rebuildables, no home brew, no VC. That was the world of vaping I entered a year ago – oh how it has changed for the better!! And, for those still wondering whether it’s ever possible to start saving money with this vaping lark – it is. I now have a nice collection of (expensive) devices, juice that I love vaping, and about £750 more in the bank than I would have if I was still smoking.

Congratulations on your first year That's me. Today is my 1st stinky-free day. If all goes to plan, come back in a year, and I'll let you know how its gone. However, unfortunately, I dont think it will be as interesting or as informative as your post. Once again, well done

Great post one day. I started seven months ago and think I must have hit the boom as most of the things you talk about are common to me and I can't believe they haven't been around longer. With that in mind the future of vaping must be bright!

Congrats OneDay! One year in life of a vaper can be a very long time, so much has happened, it's unreal... I just wonder where this evolution of vaping will take us, or are we going to be forced underground...? Whatever happens in the future, these are exciting times we living in...
