Im still having probs with the ss mesh wick in my aga t+ cant vape over 4v or taste burnt (no hotspots) and the flavor is not a patch on my ce4 so i have ordered some 400 ss mesh cant tast anything at the moment as the wife gave me man flue so not touching anything just dripping menthol. so a couple of questions how long should a wick last ? (forever) do i need to clean a ss wick ? (every week) and how do i clean one (wash in soapy water and re oxidize )

Morning I have wicks that are 2 years old and still going strong I clean mine when they get gunked up by removing them and burning the juice off and rinsing in hot water, then they are good as new

(they need to be made different for mech and reg mods, no higher than 0.8 for a mech really and between 0.8 and 1.2 for regulated mods) what gauge wire are you using? (30 or 32 on a reg mod 28 on a mech mod) what method are you using to coil the wire round the mesh? (different methods produce very different results and will affect the vape, every bit of the coil needs to touch the mesh or it may taste burnt) The thickness of your juice will determine what micron mesh you use, also is it 316 marine quality? these are all my personal prefs so take it as is

thanks freestyler not seen this one before and a couple of things there i haven't tried the wick size i notice even though he use 45mm x 60mm approx it was still a straw type wick i never oxidized the mesh sheet before i rolled i never folded the outside edge i folded it on the inside the rest pretty much new accept now i now the coils must be tight on the wick so wait for the post man and start again as soon as i get shot of this cold so i can taste things again oh and i think i will try the twisted kantal again @1.6 ohms ive been trying for 2.0 ohms + all the time

Hi punisher, what is the resistance of your CE4 coil, might have a bearing the ce4 I have a few heads run between 2.4 and 2.8 ohms, use them on ego c which is 3.3v i think so a 2.8ohm atty at 3.3v gives around 4.1 watts I think and the 2.4 gives around 4.6w - 4.7w not sure if its watts just on the ohms chart i have they in the green .
So using same chart on lavatube with 1.6ohm head to get the same flavour i would have to run it at less than 3 volts
but my cappuccino taste great in the ce4 lol

Try this you don't need to oxidise your mesh it is a bit big but works perfect no hot spots and lasts ages I can look a boy messy but no one sees it under the atty top cap lol www.vapertrain.com/product/bhts

Put it on the top of your rolled un oxidised ss wick and wrap your coil round it

I think it is all about wicking. Your SS wick cant suck the liquid up as fast as the silica wick for some reason.
The sleeving goes over the SS wick and then the coil is wound over that. So you cant get any electrical connection with the SS wick and cant get any shorts.
But if your SS wick isnt feeding as much liquid to the coil as the silica wick then the coil will start to dry and get hotter. Then it will get almost red hot and burn what is left on the coil. There are a lot of pics of coils on the web that are red hot, but if you are getting a good vape from any coil, it wont ever be red hot because it would then be burning and too dry. The liquid actually cools the coil so it doesnt ever get red hot. So if there isnt enough liquid getting sucked up it cant keep the coil wet all of the time. So to my way of thinking, your SS wick isnt sucking up enough liquid. Maybe the 400 mesh will sort it for you, good luck.
If I am talking small spherical objects, please forgive me, I am only just up and my head isnt working yet ;-)

Take a peek here. When you see it in picture it becomes a bit clearer. Personally I find the ribbon Kanthal to be a lot for forgiving by not putting so much pressure on the wick.
