Yep they seem to be "on it" at the mo, I got a combined £16.00 charge the other week. The customs I can just about deal with, the £8.00 Royal Fail handling charge on the other hand! Chris.

Hardly stung, it's a risk you take, and decide accordingly.

I'm with Blue on this one. We all know that importing goods attracts duty. We're quick to have a go at Starbucks and Google for tax avoidance, but we hope to get away with it ourselves. But - I have to agree that the RM "handling charge" of £8 for putting a card through your door is having a laugh.

It's not the tax i ever mind paying - tis the automatic £8 RM charges that bother me most - £4 tax - fair enough + £8 RM 'handling' charge is the part i resent Tease-smiley

I have a whinge about it every time I go to collect anything that has attracted a charge. I still have to stump up of course, but it makes me feel a little better and even the RM staff agree. We do all know the score however, I don't let it spoil my enjoyment of whatever I've bought.

Shivers
I've got a mod on order from the US
If it comes down to it I'm not going to grumble too much about paying import tax (They are shiney after all)
Having spoken to the vendor they are happy to send it anyway I ask.
Does anyone have any tips for getting goods through customs
e.g saying they are samples or a gift?

£17.91 from me on Monday . . . heigh ho. ShiversDoes anyone have any tips for getting goods through customs e.g saying they are samples or a gift? VAT/Duty will still be liable, even if it's declared as a gift for any amount over $19 ( I think ) Pezz, either by the recipient or sender, imported in the UK. If a Vendor under declares the value on the customs declaration form, that will also nullify any insurance in the event of the parcel going astray. It's probably bound to be a criminal offence as well, most things are. I think we have to accept, that on goods from overseas, then we have to factor in excess Vat/Duty charges if we want an item. If they're not charged, then that's a bonus.
