Roll on the weekend. Wednesday night, I picked mrs. fred up from work about 11:30. Got home, made cup of tea, and thought about getting to bed. A face appeared at the cat flap, and seemed to be having trouble getting through. Neo eventually managed to get in, and I can only describe what I saw as 'one of Super-Shiny's avatars'. His left eye had effectively been replaced by a very ripe cherry-tomato. I thought he'd been fighting and got his eye really damaged. Sh1t, Sh1t, Sh1t!
Well, we rushed him to the emergency vet, who informed us he'd been in an RTA
Of course, we haven't had much sleep for 2 nights, but 36 hours and £1200 later, the wee man is home with (another?) one of his lives gone, along with his left eye. He doesn't like his new hat (to stop him scratching his stitches out), but apart from that, doesn't seem too shaken or stirred. Now we've got to stop him wrestling with his sister for a week, but at least he's home and living. The good news (apart from Neo still being with us) is that I've been happily vaping through the ordeal, and have not even thought about reverting to a stinkie.

Oh, Fred, poor Neo Hope Neo is on the mend now? and hope you and Mrs Fred can get some well deserved rest Well done for vaping through it. When things like this happen and you do manage to vape through, then you are definitely a vaper not a smoker now!

Sorry to hear that Fred, but glad he's still with you.
Had to draw breath when I saw how much it cost though.

Sorry to hear that Fred, but glad he's still with you. Had to draw breath when I saw how much it cost though. I know! Unfortunately, the cats aren't insured (they will be by Monday) Luckily, the dogs are - we're up to about £3500 so far with Polly for arthritis & kidney failure. Still, they're all part of the family, and we do what we can (even though we can't afford) for them.

That's not good Fred glad Neo is recovering. I think my cat has paid for my vets holidays for the past five years and they know him by name and I just have a standing order now as he's at the vet at least once a month

Aww Fred, what terrible news. Isn't it amazing how Neo, who must have been in great pain and severe shock, was able to make it to his home? Thinking of you all.

hows he doing fred? i remember my dad telling me about a farmers dog who caught his leg in trap and chewed it off and still managed to get home. your episode made me think of that from way back when Neo obviously loves you and feels safe and secure at home

I know how you feel Fred.
One of my Bichons has jumped or something and damaged joints in 3 of his 4 legs.
I have had him at the vet twice now and although on pain killers and anti inflammatory drugs, he is far from okay.
He goes back to the vets on Thusrsday for 4 x-rays, to try to figure out just how bad it is.
Oh well, fingers crossed. Hope yours recovers okay.
