As most of you know I am a newbie to vaping, its been about 3 months now since I bought my first e-cig a 510 and thought it was great but wanted something better but within my price range. I went for the Riva and have been impressed with it,but it does have its problems. The good points are that I can use the 510 fittings with it and that the battery lasts a few hours and having two batteries makes it good to carry around, The taste is good and there are plenty of other vapers using them so I can always get advice. The problems I find are that it leaks like hell and sometimes it gets so hot Ive burnt my tongue when using the clearomisers. Sometimes it burns the juices so they have no taste or no vape.
I would like to maybe buy something else but because I can't actually see them for myself it gets confusing and there is also the cost. Would my Riva fittings fit on the new mod or would I have to start from scratch. Battery life and what it looks like and the cheapest place to get it. Its all confusing to me and I cannot afford to buy one then not like it.
I know this has been asked before but if if you were starting off now which mod would you buy and within your price range?

How about one of Sean's mods? Or Campers multi mod? What sort of mod's do you like? Also it's not really your Riva that's the problem, it's the stuff you put on it. I tend to drip on my Riva and it works great. I also use carts sometimes and have some carto's which work fine too.
You just have to look around at what's available and take the plunge and pick one. It's down to your personal choice really.

It's not easy buying your first mod as it took me sometime to find what I wanted and then theirs the expense. I'll start with your first question about the clearonizers though, what I tend to find is the rubber tip on the clearomizer is crap and you can have a love hate relationship with it at times but the newer version is a plastic cap rather like a 901/510 cartridge that has been cut down slightly and has a slightly bigger hole so you don't get red hot condensation burning your lips, personally I use a clear drip tip on mine which has a large hole and I think gives a much much better vaping experience with clearos. Mods mmmm were to start ? My first mod was a 2nd hand mk2 screwdriver which I paid about £10 in the classifieds and still own today. You have got to put a few things together in your mind like do I mind how big it will be ? How much battery life I require ? do I want higher voltage or am I happy with 3.7 volts or do i want the option of trying a mod that is capable of a few different voltages ? At the end of the day look at it this way it's either a piece of plastic or a metal tube with batteries inside and they all do aroundabout the same job so go with what you can afford for now as you can always sell it on to buy something else but don't get stuck in the same rut a lot of people do and keep on buying the so called "next best thing" that has come out. Personally I have quite a few mods I have collected over the months I've been vaping as you always need a few backups or the right mod for the occasion as I wouldn't go shopping with the wife with a large mod with a tank on it as I'd prefer something a little more discreet like an ego battery with a clearo on it but at work I'll use my BW510N or megalodon with a tank as it has a few days worth of battery life and I don't have worry if it will run out.

Tyne, would you mind if I moved your thread to the main forum for discussion - where you're likely to get a few more opinions. Edit to say: In answer to your original question Tyne, I think advising someone on what to purchase as their first mod is incredibly difficult as we all have different needs, requirements and budgets. But one I'd recommend as a good starting point is a Screwdriver, it tends to get overlooked thesedays with all the new toys that are available to us. Trog makes the MK1 version and TW vend the MKII made in China to Trog's specifications. There's very little to go wrong with them, batteries are inexpensive and with the Tank Adapter it opens up the options even further.

My first mod was a GD boxmod from Liberty Flights.Excellent starter mod, cheap, reliable and vapes much better than a Riva. Boxmod=£14.99 2 14500 batteries=£3.99 Charger=£3.99 Cheap as chips and a very good first mod that kept me going many months before going demented and turning into a mod junky Seans mods are very good,i have a fair few and cant fault the performance of any of them.Very reasonable price, give Sean(Pinhead) a PM to see what he can do for you.

Have to say Tyne, that even though I've got the GGTS and the little BB, I still prefer my Screw driver mk11. It works perfectly with an adaptor which means both 510 and 901's can be used. It vapes perfect every time and there's so little to go wrong with it.
I've had issues with mine but now I know that it's just the silly spring on the button end it's easy to put right unlike the GGTS system that is continually stumping me LOL.

word of advice tyne if you do go for an SD go for the chrome as the black never seem to work as well with them being powder coated as i think its something to do with the condutivity (word of the day;))

Everything else seems to leak, but don't get me wrong I like the Riva but I just want to try something else.I don't have much money to spend just now and I'm not just going to take the plunge and get one when there are so many members on here with very good advice.

I know what you mean. It's a shame I don't have a car as I could have come over and shown you my nods. When I get some wheels we'll have to meet up.
