Mr Dolly bought himself a selection of juices from a vendor he hasn't used before. i noticed that on the bottles they all have a use by date of October 2013. i was under the impression that juices last indefinitely, or does it depend on what flavour they are?

The usual 'wisdom' is that e-juice has a shelf life of two years. It must depend on ingretients used in a particular juice though I'd have thought. Maybe Frogster (The Alchemist) or one of the other experts can tell us more?

Thanks Steve. The flavours he got were coconut (VERY nice) cappachino, and almond. i did think that October this year was a rather short shelf life.

I also assumed that they would be safe for two years, simply because the natural extracts in my cupboard have a very long shelf life. I have a few juices purchased recently that also have a Best By date of October 2013, my guess is that this is down to the ingredients used. I suppose I'll just have to wait and see whether the flavour and appearance changes if I still have these juices after the suggested date. Personally, I see it as a guideline because perishable ingredients are not listed so we have no definitive way of knowing for sure.

I think Vendors are ' protecting ' themselves/showing compliance by having these ' Use by ' dates Dolly, in the event of any regulation. If you store them sensibly there's no reason why they shouldn't last a couple of years, which seems to be the consensus of informed opinion.

I put a "use before" of 1 year on all my liquids as a matter of course, as some of the flavourings I use come to me with a 1 year best before...
By doing so, there is compliance with Trading Standards, and other legal requirements, however, I am confident that they will last a lot longer.
The Concentrates I sell, again have a "Use Before date" again it is usually 1 year (as that is what the majority / minimum length of time given to me on the bulk bottles. Some are two years, but I play it safe....

Ahhh ok. Thanks Perps and Frogster. So it's merely a covering your backside type thing? Good to know, not that any of our stuff lasts more than a few weeks!!
