Kbee - for what's it's worth, here are the recommendations from the Cornish jury. Nicotine base - go for 54mg PG, it will last you a bit longer. The more you buy, the cheaper it gets. 100ml each of PG and VG base, although you will probably need more VG than PG because the base and flavourings all contain PG. All depends on the % mix of VG and PG you want - I usually go for 50/50. Flavourings - your shout, but get at least 3 or 4 so that you have some variety. Some work better as single flavours, some work better as mixers. Have a look at the members recipe thread to get some ideas. Empty bottles - ALWAYS keep your empties, so that you have some sort of stock to use for your own juices. Syringes - I use a 2ml and a 5ml, with a 10ml for larger mixes. One needle would be enough, 2 makes life easier. Go for an 18 as the VG is quite thick and viscous, and you will have a hard job using a narrower bore needle. However a narrow bore needles would be better for flavourings. I mix directly into the bottle - don't bother with mixing cups etc. I use Marigolds when handling the nic base, and bare hands with everything else, all washes off with soap! Distilled water/Vodka - never used it, but make sure the Distilled water is BPC, fit for human consumption. Someone else can advise here. Vodka - best with tonic, lemon and ice. I rinse all the gear in hot water after use, and even rinse the bottles before using them - a vigorous flick will get rid of most of the water, and a tea towel what's left on the outside. Aim for some small mixes first - 5ml or 10ml if you are sure you will like it. You can always make up a larger quantity later. I use stick-on labels to attach with details of strength, PG/VG %, mix date, and of course flavour. This is sealed with sellotape to prevent runs in the ink! last bit of advice - just make a few mixes, you'll get hooked and then the fun begins. To mix up 50ml of my favourite VC recipe takes about 10mins total, including washing up afterwards! Andy

Well..... I've done it! Ordered; a mixing kit (pipettes, syringes etc) 54mg Diamond Crystal PG base (decided to do my mixes 50/50) PG (guess I won't need much of this) VG Capella Vanilla Custard TPA French Vanilla Deluxe Ethyl Maltol TPA Dulce de Leche Question - as Perpetua's VC is a tried and tested recipe do I go ahead and make 30ml or should I still make a smaller amount at my 1st attempt? Wish me luck

Well done Kbee . . . a whole new fun world awaits you, any questions then just ask. I'd make 10ml myself, just until you get a feel for all your different ingredients and the mixing process itself.

The problem Grant has is that he's a one-man-band who also, I believe, has a proper job as well. So when he gets hammered with orders he then has to close down to make up new batches. It's the one downside of his stuff being so popular. Either that or he's on a world cruise on the profits he's made from you all

I've read of quite a few that have turned to mixing when they run out of GVC supplies. Mine are steeping and if they turn out to be any good then I won't need to buy from Grant again - especially as GVC is on the pricier side.

Grant is beyond busy, as oneday says he closed down in order to catch up. He supplies all over the world and that includes to vendors. He hasn't retired and will re-open soon. He's just been overwhelmed That applies to e-mails as well, he's on his own and as you can imagine he has a lot of people badgering for custard. I do prefer the world cruise option that oneday tendered though

Grant is a fantastic guy. I was talking to him a couple of weeks ago. As Blakey said, he is currently a victim of his own success. His custard really has become a global market from America to Australia. He has to shut down periodically to catch up on the huge volume of orders he gets. After all, he does it from home with no help. Rather than take on orders and let people down, he would rather shut it down so he doesn't make promises he can't keep.
