that thread is mainly about extracting flavours, not nicotine which would be a different kettle of fish altogether ... a safe solvent would be required and a method for forming crystals ... problem would be measuring strength as well... difficult and probably not advisable

just before i found this forum and realised there were better options than the high street e cigs, i realised the ecig was going to prove at least as expensive and probably more than roll ups.
At that point i was going to use the ecig as a short term measure to help stop smoking but now my plan is to slowly over time gradually reduce the nicotine content...then decide if i would keep vaping without nicotine. I think if they start increasing the price via taxes etc i would revert back to using vaping as a short term(albeit more stressful)way to stop smoking as for me it was almost equal measures of saving money and the health benefits of stopping smoking(plus its becoming increasingly awckward to smoke these days in public, at work etc)

I didn't start vaping because it was cheaper, and I wouldn't go back to the fags if vaping was more expensive.
I'm not sure it would be feasible to tax us that much anyway. Too easy to smuggle the nicotine and mix your own. To make it more expensive than smoking they'd have to charge over £1,500 tax on a year's supply of nic which you could buy abroad for maybe £50 and put in a wine bottle.

I wouldn't have started if I had thought it would be more expensive, but then I believed the whole 40 fags to a single cartomiser lies at that point. I haven't broken even yet, but if it became financially prohibitive to vape, I would be cross, cut down, and give it all up. Then go back on the fags a few months later....

It's a win win situation for me, i used to like a bottle of wine a day at night, alcohol and wine for me are two good friends, so when i stopped smoking i had to stop drinking as there is know way i could drink wine and not smoke, so me vaping has saved me money from not drinking/smoking and now i feel so much healthier.

I have had times when vaping DID cost more than smoking icon_shoppingm
I would be seriously upset with myself if I went back to the stinkies, and the cost of vaping would have to get very high indeed to make me stop. If prices got ridiculous then I guess I would stop wasting money on stuff I don't actually NEED in order to vape, my stuff would get more basic, and perhaps I would cut down on how much I vape.
I feel so much better in myself, I am sure that people with more energy etc are better able to generate income, so you end up better off. I am sure I save money on things like the dentist etc.
Smoking "costs" in more ways than one.

Reasons for switching were 50-50 maybe 60-40 cost-health, and so far... spent:- £440 (but with enough DIY supplies for 3.5 yrs-worth of juice and no shinyitis) saved on baccy:- £652 net saving to date:- £211 net saving to May 2016:- £3,430 Would I go back to fags if costs were the same? NO If vaping in the UK was slightly more expensive? Probably not, as others have said, buy supplies from abroad at cheaper rates

Sorry i mid-red the thread thought you were saying vaping costs you more. SORRY If it did cost more I do think it would be worth it. I went from between 10 and 20 cigarettes a day to zero nicotine in less than 3 months. I had tried everything before to give up. It is so worth it I reckon

I would vape rather than smoke, anyday, even if it's slightly more expensive going back to the stinkys that is not even an option for me now to go back. I actually hate the thought I have been puffing my way through 30 to 40 fags a day, What the hell have I done to myself let alone my non smoking wife. I hope to work my way down to zero nic way before all this comes in… if I haven’t achieved that then giving up vaping is going to be a hell of a lot easer that given up on the fags.

After 50 years of smoking in September 2012 I found e-cigs and vaping. Joined this incredible forum found out about vaping and it`s benefits. Since then I have spent a "Bloody fortune" on `shineys`, juice, batteries, and other equipment. Will I stop vaping NOOOOOOO!!!!. Vaping not smoking will give me those extra healthy years to see and play with my `grandchildren`. See my granddaughters get thro `uni` and later married. What ever it costs, I shall continue vaping, and reduce my nicotine input by mixing my own juices. Only regret that i did not find vaping out sooner in life, and that however hard I try I cannot get my wife (Joan) to give up the `stinkies`. "Brussels Sprouts and UK taxman, can "GET STUFFED". Tease-smiley From Happy, Healthier VAPER. jeffc.
