It's a win win situation for me, i used to like a bottle of wine a day at night, alcohol and wine for me are two good friends, so when i stopped smoking i had to stop drinking as there is know way i could drink wine and not smoke, so me vaping has saved me money from not drinking/smoking and now i feel so much healthier. See, I like a drink, and that was why I couldn't quit the stinkies, now I can vape while I drink my bottle of wine (only a couple of times a week now, not every day, still skint) or when I'm down the pub, and I can quit fags and be happy. Hoping to drop to no-nic and just have an ego and a clearo for when I'm drinking eventually. Life is too short to be sober

Many already answered your question when they bought their first cigalike - they are very often more expensive. Now THAT /\ /\ is a work of genius. E-lites cost me more than roll ups. That's why I'm spending my summer in North Korea trying to persuade his wonderfulness Kim Jong Il to aim his infinitely powerful, all conquering weapons of mass destruction on British Shopping Malls. Take out E-Lites, Primark and the bonus of Anne Summers in one awesome blow of, ...well, awesome-ness. I lead a simple and unimaginative life.

I don't understand the question - what do you mean if vaping cost more than smoking Mind you I don't have to make regular trips to Belgium now!

Being in the fortunate, or unfortunate position of having had a 40 super king a day habit before I found E-cigs, Vaping has never cost me more than half what I used to spend on Smoking cigarettes.
By the end of this month, I will have enough chemicals stashed for the next 9 years at my present consumption levels. Longer if I cut down on the MG a bit.
While I applaud these that are cutting down to Zero Nic, I have stopped smoking too many times, several times for over a year, but could never stay stopped, so I know that drastically cutting down on Nic or trying to cut it out is just not on for me.
So if, in 9 or 10 years time Vaping is more expensive than smoking, or even banned altogether, then I will return to smoking cigarettes. After all I smoked for 50 years to get at the nicotine, I vape today for that same nicotine and I will continue to get at that nicotine which ever way it is cheapest and available to me.
90% of people who stop smoking are back on it within 2 years. We will need to wait a decade or so to get the same type of figures from those that stop vaping or cut their vaping to zero nic. However I can see no obvious reason why the figures would be any different.
Thank you everyone who answered.

Lobey... I cannot ever seeing myself going back to the ciggies, whatever happens to the prices. I now don't even think about them, even though I've still got half a packet in a drawer (a reminder to what a **** I've been over the last 50 years).
Even vaping doesn't bother me that much lately (sorry if that's heresay!) BUT because of SOME of you here (you know who you are!) extolling the virtues of 'mixing' their own, I'm having a bash at that as a hobby (either that or building Airfix kits).
I would say that if legislation, taxes or whatever drives this fledgling industry out of the price range of most, they will have 'blood on their hands'. It just bl**dy works!

I must say that I tend to go longer between vapes than I used to between smokes and where I do not feel comfortable vaping, I don't and tend not to think about it. Also, when I vape I tend to only have a couple of tokes then forget about it again whereas when I smoked I would have the whole fag whether I wanted it or not.
Take this afternoon for instance. I was at the Vets and had to wait in the waiting room for over two hours. I had my two Bichons there and they were dancing about like demented Zebedees, trying to get into the cages of hissing and spitting cats. All that time I had my Ego on its lanyard and a Zmax in my pocket, yet I it never crossed my mind to have a vape, even although I was somewhat stressed at the thought of what the Vet would be telling me regarding the state of health of one of my dogs.
I don't look for the same satisfaction from vaping that I did from smoking a cigarette and listening to friends who are smokers and have tried vaping, I can appreciate their comments about how vaping is not for them.
I just hope that this time next year I will still be paying much the same for my vaping material and that the Vendors I use today are still in business then.

My original motivation to stop smoking was definitely the cost. I was spending about £130 a week but given the amount of GUFF I've managed to cough up in the past two weeks since stopping, I would be genuinely terrified to start smoking again! (sorry for being so graphic folks)

If they pushed the cost of vaping to today's price of cigs I would kick the vaping. There is no way that I would go back to cigs ever again. Iv'e not ever tried it but I think it would be far easier to quit vaping than coming off cigs.

I started for health and cost reasons.
I know I could not go back to cigs now as I hate the taste (I never did like it really, which is very odd) - tried a puff of one about 4 months after I stopped and it made me heave. I'm around smokers still, at work and home and it never, ever bothers me. So I feel confident I wouldn't re start, even after almost 40 years of them.
The only thing that gets me nostalgic is the smell of the smoke of a freshly lit ciggie - I think my brain associates it with pleasure.
If I were new to vaping though, and it were as expensive (or more so) as cigs, I'm not sure I would have started.....

Once upon a time, a long long time ago, de da de da de da. I had "a problem" with alcohol and after a few attempts I stopped drinking (with the aid of a well known organisation in that field).
Now the difference between alcohol and nicotine is that not everyone who drinks alcohol becomes addicted to it, but everyone who is exposed to nicotine will become addicted to that.
I don't think that vaping alcohol would satisfy any cravings I might still have for the stuff and anyways I am not going to try that. However it is certainly true that vaping nicotine does satisfy my need of nicotine and while it is still available in its vaping form and still affordable, I will continue to vape it. I am 66 years old and I have now been using nicotine for over 50 years. I cannot in all honesty ever see myself not using nicotine and so I will continue to use it in whatever form I can until I kick the bucket. Personally I have no qualms about whether that is smoking, vaping, Snus or whatever. It is the nicotine part that is important for me. However, by vaping my nicotine, there are other advantages that have to be taken into consideration. Advantages that affect others around me, like the financial savings, the cleaner house etc and last but not least, the fact that my pets are not bothered by my vaping whereas they were very bothered when I was smoking.

If vaping cost more than smoking I wouldn't go back to smoking that's for sure but I would have to give up vaping as I can't cut back on my other outgoings any more than I already have.

In yon picture it says that the guy spent $4000 (£2,625.) on e-cig gear in one year. Well by the end of my first year, if I continue to vape at my present rate, I will have saved over twice that on not buying fags. As it is my intention to never spend more than half what I used to spend on fags, I too could spend $4000. But I wont, because my saving are going to be put to a better use.
