You are all being very kind and I thank you all for your patience. However - I don't think it's anything to do with MVR. My computer simply doesn't want to even recognise the hardware.
A long shot - does anyone who has got this installed correctly want to send me the driver, either by email ot dropbox, so I can try installing it manually?

Connect the evic and find it in the device manager in control panel. Right click it and go to properties, then driver details

OneDay No trouble at all fella. Googling around, the MVR seems to have a few quirks with it working..which isn't unusual with PC's.

I've had the same problem. Originally I thought it was because I was running Windows 8 (which I happen to believe is the worst written collection of code in the history of software engineering). I then switched back to Win 7 Ultimate 64bit. Same problem. So I then tried installing MVR in a VMWare Windows XP machine, and bingo it works every time in XP. So I can only think it's a Windows 7/8 driver compatibility problem.

Hhhmnn.. Just read your posts properly and realised you are using XP... So it can't be just a Windows 7/8 driver problem...

When i first plugged mine in, it failed to install driver.
I ignored it.
Downloaded MVR, and after finally getting the right one, and plugging in the evic after running it, it worked.
I just clicked on transfer data, or whatever it is (haven't got it with me) and the rest, as they say, was history

Well guys, thank you one and all for your help and input. I have absolutely failed to get it working on the XP netbook, so I have had a go on the family Windows 7 lappy and it's gone on without a single problem (other than having to kick one of the daughters off the lappy). So, Evic is updated to 1.3 and the software is running properly on a PC which I will have to queue to use Thanks again - what a helpful place this always is!!

Ah just noticed its a NetBook and the USB port may not be pushing enough current. It may be worth trying connecting a powered USB hub into it and then the evic in to the hub. I've had the odd device giving problems like that as the USB port only pushes 5v at not much current leading to bad installs

Hey OneDay...if your still wanting to give your netbook a shot, do you want to try one more thing? If you: go to the USB 2.0 FS Player device then Right click > Properties, go to the details tab and look for a Hardware ID....could you post a screenshot of what you find? It should give some sort of vendor ID (VEN/VID) and device ID (DEV/PID), which should help in locating the missing drivers.
