If it makes you feel any better, Jen, they're over here too. We're now landline & VOIP phone ex directory, still get loads a week though. If we do answer the phone to them, at least we can say 'Do you speak English?' the normal answer is 'Non!'

I'm on the TPS telephone database list.....Free to join and takes 28 days to get rid of annoying calls
Only thing it does not do is International ......Its UK only
Google it and see......Its on the moneysupermarket website if I remember right
If you do get a call....Tell them you are on the TPS database and they hang up very quickly
Many of you may know this....But just thought I'd mention it

Most of the sales type calls we get are recorded voice ones. I just lay the phone on the table and let them yak away until they eventually realise that no one is listening and then they hang up. It is cost them, not me.

I am on the TPS - certain companies ignore it, and if they're overseas it doesn't apply to them, unfortunately jess - good one I should speak German to them...

We are also with TPS, but firms are using loopholes to get around the TPS rules by saying they are "carrying out surveys in your area" to promote their products. Surveys appear to not come under the TPS rulings.

Yep, try that, Jen! I signed up with Pacitel over here, which was meant to stop them or at least lessen them. Says a lot that we eventually had to go ex-dir.

I hate them all - junk mail, cold sellers at the door, tele-'marketers'...all invading my privacy and right to peaceful enjoyment of my home.
Gods, I feel old saying that!!
I've considered putting a shredder on the porch with a sign saying 'Please place all junk mail here and save me the trouble'.

i do get irritated by these calls, i generally remain polite, after all they are only trying to earn a crust, usually say "i'm sorry, but to save you any time i am not interested in whatever you have to offer/taking part in your survey, can you please remove this number from your database thankyou"
or have stock answers for sales, i'm a window fitter/satellite/computer engineer/kitchen fitter, etc.
sometimes just answer with, "good afternoon hearing aid repair centre, hello........ hello.............hello.............is anyone there? i'm sorry but i can't hear you please try again later

I get a few of these calls and play along with a while when I can be bothered. They try and get you to go to a remote access website so they can gain access to your PC and no doubt to root around and look for passwords and login details etc. Normally when I point out I work in IT they drop the phone like it's on fire

We don't get much of that abuse over here, but when it happens I usually just put them on hold and go about my business.

Say you don't have a credit card and ask if you can send a cheque, if they're stupid enough to give you their address then you have something to take to the Police. Oh, and you could ask who they'd like it made payable to so you have a name.

Just had a call from this bunch of ****s: 02896563256 whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/02896563256Some Indian organisation trying to get access to my computer by telling me there are corrupted files on my ISP (or something) slowing my internet down. Apparently they then try to get you to go to a website and download some software, which then allows them access to your files and PC/laptop. Easiest way to get rid of this sort of thing is to tell 'em you run Linux - they don't have a clue! Or, y'know, swear at them and hang up, whichever suits I heard of someone had this happen over here in spain, only last week, is it ok if I copy your script to post on local forum to warn them?? Thanks for the info,
