Totally agree Dolly, nature is nature. Foxes are beautiful creatures, I just don't like them. The mum brought her babies to 'play' with Dandelion. No offence or detriment to your playful scene intended, and I apologise for upsetting you if I have. Course you haven't upset me. I can totally understand the upset that caused. I also understand why Spikeys d others feel the way they do. I just don't feel the same way. We are no better than the foxes though. For centuries fox hunting was humans way of playing with foxes. Hunted them to the point of exhaustion only to set their dogs on them to tear them to shreds for fun. In that regard we are no better than they are. We also do the same stuff to many other animals too. The world is a cruel place. Just happy I saw a heartwarming side of nature today.

oh i think they are very handsome creatures and are magnificent to watch in the right environment. my house backs onto woods and we have foxes and badgers and even deer living there. my regular visitor was a mangy bedraggled specimen. i just think they are fearless, selfish and wasteful predators. Another good reason to be single spikey...................

No @spikeyfridge I didn't know you kept chickens. Good for you not taking those traps though.

This is a crazy thread. As a country bumpkin that owns chickens and lambs I have had to shoot these creatures. Saying that I adore every animal including old raynard. As long as he ain't wiping out my livestock.
I'm afraid the most selfish and ruthless preadetor around here is.... Well it's us but I'm sure that's how the chicken sees the fox. Or the elk sees the wolf. Or muscle bound men see Katie Price.
Circle of life.

You can't put human characteristics on animals, they just are like them, a fox is a fox. It just happens to be the apex predator in the UK (unless you believe in UK big cats) so will always cause certain problems.
It acts on instinct, not insight as humans do, whereas humans are selfish, stupid and cruel, animals just are living things who act on instinct.
They are generally not wasteful or selfish either. They kill a whole hen house out of instinct and if left alone for long enough, will come back and take every chicken, if they are not disturbed, or beaten to it by the daylight. They will then bury those not used straight away for later use.

Or the true apex predator takes all the dead chickens soaks em in warm water plucks em, guts em and puts em in the freezer . I think after years of shooting and killing my own food that has become instinct now. What you say is very true tho buddy, its one big system and there is as much joy in death as there is in life and new born when it comes to the animal kingdom. Case in point I do have a bit of a fascination with ants tho Regards Jez

I still don't like foxes, they killed my daughters rabbit. I wouldn't don a red coat and go chasing them through the countryside tooting a horn though.
I'm also not that fond of;
Baboons, they stole my Soosoo (cuddly toy when I was little). Dogs, wet dog smell yeurgh. Pigeons, they sit on my satellite dish and block the reception. Grey Squirrels, THEY didn't teach me how to cross the road safely.
Does this make me a bad person ?

SSSHHHHHHHhHhHhHh!! Nobody make a sound. One of the babies is sat in the garden on his own. I am so excited as grandaughter has got to see him Fingers crossed the others will turn up soon. Mr Dolly managed to get a photo. We are all sat at the edge of our bed peeping through the curtains.

The cheeky little thing has laid down in the long grass and is now sunbathing. I wonder if he has snuck out of the den whilst mum and the rest are asleep! Will take more photos if the others turn up. Our grass is long though as OH hasn't been able to cut it for weeks. It was either raining or he was working.

Aren't you glad he couldn't cut the grass? Looking forward to the pix, Dolly.
