The French Government is set to ban the use of e-cigs in public places. The Health minister comissioned a report on the health effects of e-cigs - which is due to be presented on Tuesday. Even though the report is mostly positive, the Health Minister is said to be going ahead with the law to ban the use of electronic cigarettes in public. I must admit to having confused messages in my brain over this subject. Until 'smoking' is totally regarded as 'unacceptable', even I associate the two, and can therefore see that, in some people's minds, one could lead to another.
I wouldn't accept a ban on the 'health grounds' of e-cigs, I think that's just the easy way out, but I am uneasy about how it can be muddled with 'smoking'.
Therefore I'd be happy to carry on as now, and we all do it discreetly, going mad when at home, but being mindful when out and about, and not risk the threat of the powerful but 'mis-informed' who could spoil it for us all. It will take many years, but I'm very hopeful.
Edited to add: The positive is that 'vaping' is growing dramatically around the world, and what the people want, they usually get in the end!

This wouldn't have anything to do with the complaints from tobacconists losing money and the government losing revenue would it? No of course not, just a coincidence...

Bonkers. What about zero nicotine? They are going to ban strawberry steam? I can't get my head around how this law would be passed.

But, being French, they will surely ignore the law and continue to vape in public anyway.... if they are caught they can plead that it was a crime of passion

This is so stupid - it's like banning people from drinking soft drinks in public because they may resemble alcoholic drinks. I'm becoming more and more convinced that governments are running scared about the possible loss of tax revenue when people switch from cigarettes to vaping (because it works) - that and lobbyists from the tobacco and NRT industries using their influence to spread misinformation. My local pub is happy for me to vape in it, other customers have never complained, just some have shown an interest - especially the smokers. Just heard about another convert (that makes 3, including my husband) who is going to give it a go thanks to me waffling on about it/being seen to do it. If we hide vaping away, we're hiding it from the very people who would benefit most from making the change from smoking. I think there should be more vaping in public, not less.

Whenever I vape in a public place people come over to me and ask me questions about vaping. I was outside the hospital a week or so ago and 2 different people, both smokers, came to talk to me about vaping, the question I'm most asked is where to get proper ecigs from.
vaping has spread by word of mouth so far, and it will continue to do so. By banning in public places they're hoping to halt the onslaught of vapers, there by keeping people spending copious amounts of money (taxes) on smoking. The tobacco giants are behind every underhand tactic I'm 100% convinced!
