I think that the mistake that some people make, is to stop smoking completely, when they start using e-cigs.
That method works for some, but not for all. I still smoked cigarettes for two months after I started vaping, gradually cutting down on my smoking, during that time. I knew that stopping a 46 year habit, wasn't going to be easy, so I took my time.
I smoked my last cigarette over a year and a half ago.

It was a couple of weeks before I could break the lighting up habit, more than anything when I started vaping . . . that ritual I found quite hard to break as I had lighters everywhere - just in case.

I'm one who, to my complete amazement, stopped smoking immediately I tasted my first e-cig. I hate to think how many rollies per day I was smoking but it was far too many and I'd been a smoker for around 44 years. However, I did find I was vaping far too much when using 18mg strength so upped it to 36mg (too strong) and finally settled on 24mg which I'm still using now although I'd like to lower it without increasing my vaping time. I started with menthol liquid but soon moved to stronger tobaccco flavours. I now prefer sweeter flavours and mostly stick to 'flue-cured,' ENJuice's Cafe Tabac or, for a change, their Maple Waffle but I quite like experimenting. Vaping has been an amazing experience for me as I know I'd never have been able to give up smoking; I'd tried just about everything in the past but the will simply wasn't there. I no longer have any desire for tobacco, even when surrounded by smokers. Curiously though, I've not joined the ranks of the anti-smoking-pong brigade. Fox

Always remember, e-cigs are most emphatically not a way to quit smoking - they're a way to KEEP smoking, except without killing yourself with all the crap that's in fags. SO you're not letting yourself or anyone else down if you have the occasional real one. Too many folks don't get this - and it's quite an important distinction.
If the time comes when you prefer the taste, hit and experience of an e-cig over a real cig, then fine - but you'd never berate yourself for sneaking a marly after you'd decided to smoke Regals - there's no real functional difference here, either.

Completely agree Hifi, plus one habit of many years is not for alot of us changed easily overnight by another.
If I had a cigarette now, 14months on, I wouldn't beat myself up about it in the slightest . . . there's no race or competitive element in switching to vaping, at least there certainly shouldn't be.
It's about changing habits, in a way that is comfortable to the individual and happily we're all very different.

HiFi has put it very eloquently. It's just like switching brands of cigs, you have to get used to the new taste etc.

Don't worry about it hifi, it's take time for everyone to understand how we have to word things.
