M6 Toll thingys

I'm hoping to get to Vapefest this year & will be driving, but this M6 toll booth malarky has me totally perplexed.....Can anyone north of Watford put me in the picture?....as far as I can tell, approaching from the M1 northbound, I veer off onto the M6 & then sling a right onto the M42. I'm basically trying to body swerve giving Cameron any more money than is necessary.

he......hee.....That's pretty cool that...............any idea how far up the M6 that M42 turn off is?...........just in case I mistake it for the Glasgow one............

The M6 toll part looks really popular...........1 x lorry & car on each side of it & congestion on the M42 turn off......................

Chris, the pic I've shown is assuming you're on the M42 and wishing to avoid the M6 Toll... so it's approaching J9 on the M42 and intending to stay on it. A few years ago I travelled the toll road every week for 6 months. It is an excellent road but there again I just put the tolls down to expenses.

I think I've got it....I leave the M1 at J19 onto the M6...Leave M6 at J3A onto the M42.....leave M42 at J10 onto A5 into Tamworth.....& I presume it's a reverse for the return journey & this will avoid tolls....I'm travelling from London.

* or maybe that should be leaving the M6 at J4

the car on the left is in my way to get on the toll road. i should have changed lanes earlier.

was thinking... the roads should be fairly quiet, it being a saturday morning.

Watch the signage carefully chrisjw, I drive up that way a fair bit and it can be a bit confuzzling if you have not done it before.

I think it's J3A... but just keep your wits about you approaching the junctions and give yourself plenty of time to get in the right lane.

Before you get to the pic posted by Raffles, you will get to here, junction 3A, just follow the middle option - M6 The N. West, B'ham.



Then you need to keep left to stay on m42/m6 then stick right in the M6 lanes


But if there is a queue like that, it is well worth using the toll. I always use it as the M6 around the north of Brum is awful. In fact, I drove up and down it yesterday.


The road is privately owned, so only some of the money goes to the government
