My 15yo old son has started nagging me now as apparently all his mates are going to get one!
From what I've read so far apart from the horrendously high price of £429 you also have to start buying games from scratch as the 360 games don't work on it. No doubt the new games will cost more than the current Xbox ones.
I'm not impressed by the 'additional features' like watching tv on it as I have Sky+ on my tv and happy with that. It seems to me they are just trying to create a user base by only allowing access to certain stuff to xbox1 users only. My son reckons he won't be able to play games with mates or even chat to them unless he has one.
I'd be interested to see how other parents and users feel about the new console.

Luckily I'm the gamer atm in our house, but the price staggers me. I shan't be buying one.
I think this is a case of, if you want one, save up for it. It's too much for a present (for me anyway (much, much too much!)).

My brother has been banging on about this, I am a PS3 guy myself But the £429 price tag is a shed load, and about £100 more than the PS3, ok its a new console. Also its not a gaming console, its a complete media centre, which in my eyes, defies the point of it being a gaming console. But that's my personal opinion lol. I believe he is correct in that, he won't be able to play games with his mates, if they all get Xbox1's, and the old games not being able to be played on the new consoles is common when a new console is released (the same when the PS3 was released). The games, normally, with new consoles have been around the same price (£50), and you can get some pretty good bundles from certain places (mainly online). My suggestion is say no, and then re-asses when it is actually released and you have the full picture

Actually, the ps3 was compatible with ps1 and 2 games until an update in 2011/12 Hang on, no only the limited 80gb version did which I just happened to get You also got a memory card reader under a flap and extra usb ports. Shame to say, I only ever play gta and guitar hero / rockband. Its mainly a blue ray player to me.

As I have 2 sons - the other is 18 and at college - Whatever I do is times 2. Usually I get together with their granma and we get them each one decent birthday/xmas pressie combined like the xbox 360 which they are quite happy with but the price tag on the Xbox1 is way too high. No other relatives to help and their father hasn't contributed for years. Nobody I know has ever said I spoil them and the boys are used to my money saving ways - they gave up fizzy drinks for a faster internet connection. Wow am I glad I found this site and got into Vaping - looks like I'm going to need all the money I'm saving this Xmas Thanks for all your help everyone

As a parent I would probably go for the PS4 - £100 cheaper and from what I can gather pretty much the same. However the boys have made friends with other gamers, school mates and all over the world so to change the console would make them start again. I play an online computer game and would hate to have to start a new game. It would be like having to change to another forum where you don't know anyone. I like it here Looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet on this one!

Or have I logged onto the wrong forum

My 15yo old son has started nagging me now as apparently all his mates are going to get one! I'm just curious: What's your estimated probability of this actually being true? (And is it worth hanging on to see whether it turns out not to be?)

I've been following this as news comes out. I'm an Xbox 360 user atm but will almost definitely switch to PlayStation 4 for the next generation.
Reasons being. Xbox one will not allow you to buy or sell used games, ps4 will. Xbox one needs to connect to the internet once every 24 hrs or you cannot play your games, ps4 has no online requirement to be able to play games.
There are other reasons too but the above are my main gripes.

Plus the price, plus I don't need an entertainment system, just a games one. Maybe MS will bring out a cut down version in time, which is just for games.

Gonna be getting the Xbox One, not to fussed about not being able to buy second hand games as a lot of the games i play with the kids are online and a lot of new games coming out require a code that comes with the game to be entered for online play or extra maps etc etc, second hand games the code as already been used
