So what does the need for a medical license actually mean in real terms? Will the vendors we know and love today have to apply for one for just juices and bases, or devices as well? How much is one likely to cost and what kind of checks and monitoring will this involve? Vendors are resellers of existing stuff. They would need to apply to be a reseller I'm guessing Whatever they sell will have go through clinical trials in order to be sold ... legally. This is where the cost will be. Clinical trials can take a long time and cost a lot. It'll mean also possible changes to packaging standards or at least enforcement of the existing standards in place What we don't understand is what this will do to existing devices or whether it applies to just quality control of juice contents. Scope of "nicotine product" needs to be defined. I think this will rumble on for some time ... I'd wait for the dust to settle before panicking

TBH I don't think this has changed anything very much, unless and until some specifics become available then they have just reiterated their perspective on the subject.

I guess we will still await their full proposal, as there is nothing set in stone, and the guardian articles says hope to be med regs by 2016 Exactly. What we don't need is endless pages of speculation until we know what the proposals entail. It may not be just available from pharmacies, it all depends on the licencing etc.

I think people are missing the point here !
YOU WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO GET CIG-A-LIKES from a Pharmacy
They will cost £7.85 EACH for a DISPOSABLE probably OK this is wrong, but taxes will come in.
NO FLAVOURS other than Tobacco & possibly menthol
NO LIQUID - import/selling of nicotine base will be limited to heavily regulated suppliers - the cost will rocket.
Throw away all your MODS/TANKS/Cartos as you will not get anything to put in them
We are STUFFED! if this goes through!
GOODBYE E-Cigs as WE know them

I agree, @ashmal, it's very vague as yet. I can't say I'm opposed to quality control in vaping in general. Whilst most of us here have spent time and money to get what we assume are high-quality products, the 1000 or so of us regular member and 3000 lurkers don't necessarily represent the majority of the million-ish ecig-users in the UK. A cheap cigalike is not likely to be equivalent to a Vamo or [insert mod/topper of choice here]. What I am opposed to is reducing the availability and increasing the cost!

And in two years time how many millions of users will there be in the UK? I would hazard a guess at over 3M, they really cant make this fad go away that easily.

Their view will be that they have not made them "go away" but will force all the small vendors out of the market because of regulation. They will then control the market and apply high taxes.
