Thanks Ladypenelope.
I am reading Dr Mosley's Book at the moment. Everything that he said would happen has started happening to me.
Being retired, I have chosen Tuesdays and Thursdays as my Fast Days, simply because we are into camping/caravanning and often we are away Fridays to late Mondays.
Really the only downside that I have experienced with this change of diet, is that late afternoons, on fast days, I start to feel a bit dizzy. I'm sure that will pass though the more my body (and 2 brain cells) get used to the idea.
All that said, I have not felt hungry at all and I am enjoying my new found change to my way of looking at food.
Meanwhile I will keep taking these invisible Happy Pills.

Thanks Toffeepops. I wish I just had a "few pounds" to lose!!!! But I look at the 5:2 diet a bit like I look at Vaping. While vaping is not really so different to smoking, the long term benefits are astounding. Health, Lifestyle and Financial are all Winners in the Vaping Game. Hopefully so also with the 5:2 regime. Yes, ofcourse I hope to lose the pounds, but at my age, the idea of living a longer and healthier life is just as important. I'll never be a Mr Universe, but you never know what activity I may fancy in the future!!!

Just to bring this up to date. As I said in the beginning, I am not weighing myself while on this regime, but today I had my annual Diabetic Review and I am weighed in at that. Well apart from the fact that I am "almost normal" on all counts, I have lost 20Kg since starting the 5:2 diet in June. So, does the Fasting Diet work. You bet it does!!!!

All I can do is throw my groat's worth into the mix. In 2009 I weighed 143kg - 312lbs - 22stones. Now, I'm 103kg. I kick-started the process with Atkins, but didn't intend to do that all the time as I'd yo-yoed with that before, but I knew it would get some weight off quickly. After a couple of months I relaxed the Atkins and started allowing a few more carbs into it, although my primary intake was protein. It worked, and the weight came off steadily over the next two years, about 25kg or so. Then it stalled, every time I lost a kilo it would go back on again and this went on for months. I also observed a few things about my own metabolism - this might not apply to you or anyone else - that every 10kg down there was a threshold where the weight-loss would stall and had to be kickstarted again. That's still happening, but now I know what to look for and have a fair idea what's causing it. Explanation (I'm not a doctor, dietician or lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, so this is worth what you paid for it); A fat man of 150kg needs 3500 calories per day just to maintain that weight - as the weight goes down, so does his need for the baseline calories and every so often this is what I was running into. It was time for another step-change in intake; to actually reduce calorific intake and as time passed and was less at risk of a coronary, to start doing some exercise on the bicycle. Nothing drastic, just a bit of pedalling up and down to the village and later, into the nearest small town. The reduced intake and bit of puffing/panting would get it going again. Also, and this is the biggest single thing I did to make it easier for me - buy a set of scales and use them every morning. After you've emptied your bladder and/or bowels, but keep it consistent. It doesn't matter about targets, feck them, just keep the trend going in the right direction and if you put a bit back on, so what, rectify it over the next few days. There's no need to be despondent because a kilo went back on - the trend is still downward - remember that, it's important. As I sit here at 103kg I'm feeling much healthier and happier about things - it was utter shit being that fat and really, really uncomfortable, as well as being life-threatening. What tipped it over the edge for me was working out in the sun on a blazing July day and feeling as if I was going to die. It was crap, believe me. I still intend to lose another few kgs and if I get below 100kg by the end of this year, I'll be happy enough. That's the nearest thing to a target I've set myself.

Thanks for your input farzooks
I have tried a few of the better known diets but just ended up yo-yo-ing on them.
What I enjoy about the Fast Diet is that on the days after Fasting, I feel good and I don't want to gorge on foods to make up for cutting down the previous day. Really the only problem I have with the diet is that I cannot take all of my medication on Fast Days, because some of that medication is to do with food intake. However I have cleared this with my medical team and so they are aware of it. But as they say, as long as I am losing weight and my medical conditions are continuing to improve and stabilize, then missing a few pills is okay. Just as long as both themselves and myself monitor the situation carefully.
Hopefully it will be a wee while yet before I have to dig out the rusty but seldom used bike from the back of the workshop!!!!

Hi Sue, today is a Fast Day and everywhere I look it is bloody adverts for FOOD!!!!! I keep telling myself that I will feel better tomorrow, but at the moment my stomach thinks my throat had been cut and all I can look forward to is a glass of milk with some brown powder in it. Oh, and think back to the Curryoot I had last night!

Oh, and talking of food and Curryoots, our "poor wee lame doggy" that is feeling so sorry for himself, nicked one of the Chapattis off my plate last night and shot off with it into his Wendy Kennel before I had noticed that it was gone.
But he got his come-uppance today as it "passed through" about as runny as my Main Course last night.
Now he really is feeling sorry for himself!!!!

Och he seems to be over it now and back to normal, but any more "chapatti nicking" and he will be joining me on the 5:2 Diet.

Well done on your weight loss, Lobey (I meant to add that in, but I leapt over half the thread when I posted). If the 5:2 diet had been there (it was, but hardly anyone knew about it at that point), I'd certainly have tried that as a kicking-off regime. I will probably give it a go now though, as I'm getting a bit bored with the eating routine I've established. I'm not keeping myself short, but it tends to be the same stuff most of the time. 5:2 will allow me to introduce a lot of variation and still work.
