I don't know what I am , a mixture of all 3 I think. Why well- before I started vaping my doc made me an appointment at a stop smoking clinic. Today was the day so I went along anyways to tell them how well I had done in just a few weeks going from 20 a day to just one. I figured they would add to my experience and be of support if things started to wobble ever.
I told my story and produced my equipment for her to see. She basically told me, I hadn't stopped at all, I had just swapped one addiction for another. I am now inhaling who knows what chemicals and nicotine, and I have to quit vaping.
After an hour pleading my case, totally deflated I walked out with a new appointment and a request form to supply me with an inhalator which she expects me to start using instead of vaping next week, and then by magic in 2 weeks I will be cured and will not want to puff on anything.
I thought I had done really well, and despite all the niggles I actually really enjoy vaping. I even told her you don't have to have any nicotine in them but she was totally against them full stop.
Now I just feel totally useless and confused.

Ignore her. She has no idea what she was talking about. You have already done exactly as the doctor asked. Except you are using a different nic delivery device.
Yes the inhalator will give you the nic, but so will vaping and its much more fun and so much easier to quit smoking with.
You have done really well. If it was me I don't think I would be going back.

Ignore her sammy13 Have you ever tried stopping smoking with NHS NRT? If you really want to, give it a try, but don't be pressured into it. Most of us have tried it and failed! I was talking to my friendly pharmacist the other day. He is very supportive of vaping. He said that it's true, we don't know the long term effects but it is impossible to be worse than the long term effects of smoking and that anything that got people off the ciggies had to be good. He couldn't see how the long term efects of vaping could be any worse than the long term effects of chewing nicotine gum for years. He also agreed with me that we did know what the ingredients were. He said that the claims we don't get a measured amount of nicotine are absurd. You don't get an exact dose of nicotine every time you puff a ciggie, it depends on the length of your drags etc. You don't get a measured amount from nic chewing gum, depends how hard you chew it etc He also said that when some of the big guns get them passed as Medicinal NRTs everyone will suddenly change their tune and be proclaiming e-cigs as the best thing ever.

Ignore other peoples ignorance. I heard all sorts when I started too, and still do occasionally. If anything concerns me, I research it, and I'm careful to find out facts rather than rhetoric (there is a lot more of the later, than the former ) Its true of a lot of things in life, things that people don't understand they dismiss as unworthy or dangerous. Do what works for you and let yourself hold onto your pride, you have achieved something, and no one can take that away from you, unless you let them.

No way would I swap my e-cig for the crap they give you , but would have asked her where her expertise on e-cigs come from ? Do not allow one jumped up Nurse/Doctor put you down like that .. personally i would make complaint about the way you was treated chin up and dont let it get to you

Hi sammy 13. That`s a problem all us vapers have with ignorant /lack of knowledge members of the NHS.
They are just not privy to the workings and benefits of vaping against smoking `tobacco` which we all know have 4000 plus chemicals.
I would strongly suggest that you `totally` ignore that nurse and continue in what you are doing, and thus gain a better lifestyle.
Millions of ex smokers will be alive in the future, thanks to switching too vaping.
Only consolation we have is that more medical people are very slowly realising that vaping is an aid to quit `tobacco`
Vape on Sammy you won`t regret it.

You`ve done more for yourself in that short time - a lot more than a lot of people can never do - she comes along and tries to undo it all....she could be "old school" or simply misinformed.... she needs one of these: You have done really well, don`t forget that, and just Carry On Vaping.

Hi Sammy, your not useless confused maybe but only by the practitioner giving you an inhaler, what the f**k does she think you had in your hand when you produce your vaping gear. (sorry for the bad language but these professional people get me riled) firstly congrats on packing in the stinkies secondly it seems to me that she has never researched the e-cig or vaping equipment/e-liquid before. I do believe though that all of us who do pack in the stinkies are in fact switching to a healthier alternative because we are still nicotine dependent, at least in the first months anyway. Keep your appointment if you want but i would not go if they effectively try and stop you vaping and try and put you on recognised NRT which we all know through stats that the current recognised NRT's are in fact not all that good and more than 50% of people who try go back again or fail. Keep happy and vaping (do not go back on the stinkies what ever these job worths tell you)

Sammy, don't let one totally bloody ignorant know it all dalek-smileyget you down. You have done so well since you started vaping and everyone on here will tell you that, 20 cigs down to 1, that says it all :DShe obviously know beggar all about vaping, doesn't want to know, and is against it, so stuff her and her inhalator where the sun don't shine.
Vaping has helped so many of us quit cigs, i was a heavy smoker, i smoked 3 before i even got out of bed, but after vaping for just 2 days i haven't had a cig since and that was over 5 years ago.
Just don't let her ignorant opinion drag you down, she just ain't worth the upset, you know you are doing well and so do we

I have to agree with Zeldamum, The lady at the clinic is obviously ignorant of all the facts relating to vaping. She is acting in the same way as the MEP`s that will not listen to other people.
They all have a different agenda.
I, personally, would not return to the clinic just to satisfy myself that I know better, and the old adage of "there is none so blind as them that will not see"
The Clinic probably has to show that the work they are doing, to stop people smoking is a successful, when in fact it is common knowledge that they are just paying lip service to those above, and helping Big Pharma stitch us all up especially taking into account the low success rate in the low single figures percentage wise.
You know that you have virtually stopped smoking and that is all that matters.
Just think about the pleasure that vaping gives you and how easy it is not be beholden to the stinkweed.
Plus have the pleasure of knowing that the more of us that move over to vaping means the less smoking cessation clinics will be required, rendering them obsolete.
My opinion is that you will get much more support here on AAE-C than you will get at many Smoking Cessation Clinics, we are here night and day to offer any help and support to other members.
PS. WELL DONE YOU
