Do insist on the referral to a sleep clinic - if it is sleep apnoea you have to get treatment and inform DVLA (along with letter/statement from the consultant) in order to continue driving or you may risk your insurance being invalid, and once diagnosed you have to declare on insurance quotes. That sucks

I know nothing about the condition, though it's interesting to read the advice and experience of others that do have first hand knowledge. Good luck with your appointment Kibbs.

Well the doctors appointment couldn't come quick enough, I had a dreadful night last night. I lost count of the number of times I stopped breathing and jerked awake gasping It's a bit like a living nightmare at the moment

I agree 100% with GunJack, everything he says is spot on. If you feel you have sleep aponea do insist on a sleep study. It took me three years to get mine done and a lot of arm twisting but I can say it is the best treatment available for this condition. Hope you manage to have a better kip tonight!

About the DVLA, the hospital I attend give you a signed form after a few weeks(if you have been compliant with the therapy), you then send this to the DVLA. I also informed my car insurance again no problem.

Good luck kibbster, I hope you get it sorted.
My wife gives me several elbows every night to get me breathing again, has been this way for 20 years.
Medics round here are crap and nothing has ever got sorted for me so I hope you have better luck with yours.
Mine is due to the soft palate closing my throat which also makes me snore and leaves me tired and with headaches.
If you have enough discipline you can sleep on your front with a pillow under your chin to keep the airway open, works for me.

Sounds like a classic case of obstructive sleep apnea that, raid.... insist they refer you to a sleep clinic, should be a small one within ENT of your local hossie

Well been to the doctor. Apparently stopping breathing when falling asleep and gasping for air isn't normal hehe He actually seemed to care Have had my bloods taken, blood pressure was spot on perfect They've given me a sheet to score myself on situations during the day when I'm likely to fall sleep - and I scored "Abnormal" lol Once my bloods are back (checking for Thyroid problems) they book me into a sleep test in hospital... Still it was nice to be listened to and no one asked me about smoking, but then that's probably because I certified myself as a non smoker when I went in last time hehe
