Protank on SS wick, an alternative to Genies

Just reading a post where someone is struggling with an AGA-T on SS mesh. Lets face it we've all been there.

An alternative, and an easy way into vaping on SS mesh is to do a Protank.

I love my Genesis style atties but they’re bloody impractical. Big, clumsy, heavy and not the sort of thing I can have flying around the van during the day.

I've been playing around with SS wicks on some of the Kanger range, and just done a Protank.

Thought I'd post some pics.

4 wraps of .25 kanthal wick came out at 1.2ohms (aimed for 1ohm) which is a bonus as I can use it on a Vamo or a mechanical and it vapes great on both.

So if you feel like trying a SS wick without buying an rebuildable, give it a try.

Hi jim just found this following someone asking about how you did this in the GVC + Vodka thread.
Great job mate.
A quick question, did u add any of the flavour wicks on top of the mesh?
Might just give this a go as i have some mesh off-cuts that would do the job nicely

I have a few offcuts of mesh from wicking my genny's today, i think i will do my ProTanks tomorrow

 Sorry for late reply, dont come the board that often, maybe it's my PC or my broadband but the AAEC forum runs real slow at this end and I find it really frustrating.

No, no flavour wicks, just keep the wick nice and snug in the wick holder, (not tight), and have it hollow but not a straw if you get my drift.

Just been thinking about doing this to my protank and thought I'd search to see if any of you clever chap's had already done it (figured someone would have!)

Just a question as I am mulling this over, is there any issues with shorts with the mesh touching the metal head?
Got thinking about this after watching Mr busardos cleaning the taifun vid

I'm so glad you posted this one, thank you so much; I read it this morning, and tried it just now, first one was a bit poor (1.8) and never panned out, but second one I went for a bit higher as that suits my juice well, got 2.3.

Taking it gently but I have to say it's saved my protanks from near redundancy! It's showing it's not bad at all. Biggest surprise is that the airy draw of the protank no longer annoys, no idea why that would be, but maybe it's just a more satisfying experience over all. 

This is easier than regular eko, or at least I found it so. I rolled the mesh (an off cut from trimming my RSST wick) tight enough round an ordinary household dress makers type pin, and that seems about right! 

It's a good vape at 8 watts on my vamo.   Nice!

Did you fold over the end of the mesh or just roll it straight up? Figure it's easier to ask you if you have done it rather than making the mistake myself! And did you use a flavour wick? I know Jim said he didn't but interesting to see any different views

Well, being a left over stub from RSST wicking, I had to just roll it a little harder to tighten, around a pin as I said!

If doing from scratch I roll them around a suitable former, like a needle or something, drill bit even, just to get it started, then roll it in between thumbs and fingers to tighten it.

Can't believe I'm telling you this, I did not know what vaping was 10-11 weeks ago! LOL 

I did it as Jim explained above, not a straw but left a small hole in middle. Hope it helps & good luck.

I guess jimthecarper is ok, as he has probably got full wet weather gear for fishing, but it really makes mine leak juice onto the centre pin! LOL

I have been pondering over this for a few weeks since I watched a video on you tube, my protank is sitting out of action as it was annoying me so I think I might give this a try. If it works everytime it would be great because when my protanks works they are mega.
