Hello All
A newbie here. I have been perusing the forum for a while now , thinking about posting. Just thought i'd introduce myself .... Hello. I have been cigarette free for 9 days now using an e-cig . I have a very basic set up i bought from jacvapour ; the v3 model, it looks similar to a cigarette . I am happy with it; it has definitley helped me stop smoking , and although the process was a little painful for the first few days i am now very happy to be tobacco free. Early days tho
Anyway, i have question that i hoped some of the more experienced vapers could help me with I have been reading up about silica wicks on the big e-cig forum ; and have some concerns particularly since i have something of a sore throat , from my e-cig i presume . I want to try and use a system that has no wick , no silica involved at all . I am however a bit skint after spending my cash on this jacvapour system also i have no head for electronics or engineering; and frankly at the moment i have no time for getting into rebuilding etc - at least not to any great degree. So here's where the meat is: is there any way i could get a system that will connect to my 510 thread batteries ; one that uses no wick. A drip tip system? is this correct? just an atomizer and drip tip that i pour the liquid onto directly . Is this possible, and if so , any recommendations as to affordable set ups . Hope you enjoy the sunshine today, and look forward to hearing from you ! Alex

Even some drippers utilise a silica wick, some atomisers use steel mesh etc, may i ask though have you been spending a lot of time in the sun over the last few glorious days? and have you been keeping up with your fluids, vaping will dehydrate your body quite quickly if isn't kept undercheck which can result in sore throats and headaches etc. what strength liquid are you using also. and Welcome

What have you read that concerns you about silica wicks? ??? I really dont think that it is the wick that is causeing you the problem - I would suggest that it is either your body detoxing from tobacco and/or not drinking enough. Several members have suggested milk aas being very good with helping "soreness" problems. Otherwise, you could just be like me, and have a summer cold

Hi The soreness could be too much nic, or you could try a VG juice, which is much gentler on the throat

Indeed! Thing is i don't think it's the juice as much as it is dehydration, can someone even pull enough through a cig-a-like to cause a sore throat from PG?

i read that the wick breaks down and small pieces of fibre escape and are inhaled in the vapour this is potentially very harmful. There was a man who had slides from a microscope he'd analysed from exhaled vapour containing the shards.
Digiworx do you know of any drip systems then that use no wicks ? many thanks Alex

I`m less worried about any perceived harm from silica fibres than what was coming out of cigarettes - even though I don`t believe there was any risk from silica fibres in the first place - always was a bit wary of those claims.

Hello & welcome Alex BTW, your jacvapour doesn't have a 510 fitting - all jackvapour e-cigs have Kr808D threads.

I think you would have to inhale a substantial amount of fibres for them to get past the moisture in your mouth and the cilia in your throat. On top of that they would then have to remain airborne on the return journey to be exhaled onto a slide! OMG! now I am worried about the radiation given off by my Riva battery

Chrissie #ontheballthismorning I recall seeing those forum threads about the silica - should really get onto Snopes to make an article about it. It will always resurface though, and a valid question I suppose.

Welcome to the forum.
Don't really see how you could inhale and exhale any of the silica wick. Strange one.
I found in the early days my throat hurt, vaping is different to smoking and can affect you differently. I got around it by not inhaling until I have had a few cups of tea.

I'm with Kaaru on this one. Silica fibres are a long way down my "things to worry about" list

I think that as has been said already, the dangers of inhaling shards of silica appear to be quite slim, especially when the wick is wet with juice. Of course there is always a risk with anything you do but you have to weigh up the amount you are willing to take. My opinion is that vaping is infinitely safer than smoking cigs. I think the vaping nirvana would be a personal vaporiser that could turn your juice in to a vapour by dripping on to some sort of heated plate but it would be a bit bulky due to the battery needing to be the size of a small people carrier.......the vehicle being small as opposed to the people Until battery technology advances by a factor of loads, we may be waiting some time. Until then, I am quite happy to vape using quality silica as my wicking medium. Just make sure you look both ways before crossing the road. And a big well done for coming off the stinkies, along with a big old Welcome Always plenty of tips, help, and advice here on AAE-C if you need it
