Average VG adulteration ratio?

Hi all,

I have some VG diluent from a well known retailer, which has been labelled as being pre cut adulterated with 15% deionised water.

I was wondering if this is an average percentage. Next time you are near your bottle of VG could you glance the label to see what percentage you got please?

I'm just interested to learn what an average typical percentage number might actually be, rather than just endlessly guess about it.

Normally 10% or 15%, 10% being the most popular i think.

Just looked on an bottle from Boots thats nearly empty & it says:
Each 5ml of liquid contains Glycrol 100% v/v
On a bottle i got from another vendor that does all things baking:
Vegetable based Glycerine / Glycol
Kosher food pharma grade, USP 99/9%
Don't know if this helps but i've just copied what was on the bottles

That's pure VG you have there and has not been diluted, VG from a ecig vendor would normally have already been diluted by 10% or maybe 15% with distilled water.

I have used the Boots one since starting vaping & been ok with it Romelee, but i did check the newest bottle & it was very gloopy so do i need to dilute that & can you cut it with vodka as well as DW, also where would i get DW from?

If it works fine already then carry on how you are, also if your mixes are high in PG that will also water it down plus most flavor concentrates are PG aswell so that will also water it down.

Suppose you could use 5% DW 5% Vodka

Think you can get DW from halfords quite cheap.

The nic base i use is 36mg in pg, i then add at least 10% flavouring & then the rest vg to bring the strength down to 18mg, does this sound right, the vg i will be starting on is much thicker than my Boots brand so maybe better to dilute it a bit do you think? as i don't want it clogging my attys up & thank you for your help

What you have is AG, Aqueous Glycerine.  Some vendors who sell VG ready diluted (not cut, please) do label it as AG.  If it is 100% VG, then about 10% is good.  If you think it is still too thick, then try 15%.  If you make a high PG mix, that is often enough to thin VG as is.

Is there any drawback to using VG without dilution in a 70PG/30VG mix?

I have done and had no problems using the boots vg because the 70pg and the pg in the flavor concentrates watered it down enough.

Plus is was using pg nic base

Thanks Romelee - I thought that would be the case; thanks for confirming. I use PG base too.  
Although my first mixes are still steeping, they don't appear gloopy at all at 70/30.

I used a couple of your recipes the other day - vanilla custard and rhubarb & custard.  Really looking forward to trying them

I use the VG from Classikool, I filled up some of the airspace at the top with vodka gave it a shake, all ready to go, most of my mixes are 50/50 and I add 5% vodka, works fine for me. Dave

I do dilute my Boots VG down with Vodka . . . that's only because I use a VG base as well and some of them can be quite gloopy. If it works for you not diluting with a PG base, then there's no reason to do otherwise as Rom said.

Especially with the warmer temperatures, it could end up too runny.

I dilute mine as follows:

1. Find the Vodka
2. Notice it's my favourite Vodka.
3. Decide to have a nip
4. Try to find where I put the VG "safely" away, search 6 cupboards then stop to think.
5. Notice it's my favourite Vodka.
6. Decide to have another nip.
7. Remember where I put the VG, in the shed
8. "Bark" my shin on the lawnmower cos I did not turn on the light
9. Find the VG go back indoors
10. I'm so pleased I found it I decide to have a little nip
11. What was I doing? Oh yeah diluting the VG, I have hiccups.
12. Look for a measuring jug cos the bottle's too full to add any Vodka, I need t take some out.
13. Search the kitchen cabinets, where's the Bl**dy measuring jug?!
14. Stop to think, decide to have a little nip while I do
15. Remember the measuring jug is in the disshwisher, which has just finished, result! Disshwisher is a hard word to say I giggle.
16. Opening the still lava hot dishwasher results in my glasses steaming up.
17. Blindly reach for measuring jug with my steamed up specs and stab my hand with a knife in the cutlery holder
18. Yelp and jump back, bark my other shin on the open dishwasher door! stupid disshwisher *giggle*
19. Think, don't be silly, wait for your glasses to clear as I sway gently
20. I decide to have a little nip to deaden the pain, whilst rubbing both sore shins............. I'll get the jug in a minute *hic*
21. ZZZzzzzz.............
22. Wake up with a start! I've fallen asleep while sat on the sofa, trouser legs rolled up, remains of the glass of Vodka spilled in my lap.
23. Got a headache, a gorilla has done something unspeakable in my mouth, can't remember what I was doing, so I shuffle off to bed...........................
