They come with a very short instruction manual that takes about twoi minutes to read then you're away - they are very simple to use. 1. Read booklet. 2. Insert battery (if not already installed). 3. Plus the test leads in. 4. Turn the big dial to what you want to test VAC VDC Ohms mA. For an example we shall test a battery so set dial to usually 20 VDC position. 5. Put red test lead on positive point (or battery + end). 6. Put black test lead on ground (battery - end). 7. Read what the display is telling you - if the meter is working correctly it should show somewhere in the range your battery has. My newly charged 18650 reads 4.17 which is it's DC voltage at the moment tested and normal for that type of battery.
To test resistance on an atty, turn the big dial to usually 200 Ohm (omega symbol). touch the test leads together and take note of the value - this is the resistance of the meter. Then put the red lead to the atty centre pin and the black to the outer. The number that comes up is the total resistance, to get the atty resistance just subtract the meter resistance.
See it isn't hard - just make sure the meter is dialled to the right place for what you want to measure. Always remember to turn it off when not in use though as low battery power in the meter can give you really weird readings - most meters have a low battery warning.

Oh and dont do what I did, lol I managed to cross the probes when testing and knackered the spring on my copper trying to see the voltage.
